He's not a great drinker, TBH, and was driving so thought it best not to join me in the sav blanc. (He didn't finish it.)

My manager is a Coopers (green label) drinker, in fact he'll only go to pubs that serve it.

I'm about to start preparing the duck (butcher couldn't get hold of a fresh goose ) and pork. They're just resting there on the kitchen counter, waiting...

Need to finish my big mug of tea and the croissant with pomelo marmalade first.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

I noticed at the market and also in the supermarket that most of the large prawns are sold pre cooked. So does everybody just serve them cold or do they reheat them on the barbie? This is in Melbourne so might be different further north.

Cold usually our entire lunch today was cold. I'm now feeling like a fat porker I've ate that much ham and mango salsa.

Hell no, I buy raw to cook, wouldn't reheat them. I do buy cooked if I just want them for a quick salad lunch.

Smile Re: Are you doing prawns for Christmas?

I cooked a turkey with roast potatoes, roast pumpkin, peas, beans (from our garden) and gravy.

I have never prepared a Christmas dinner before, so this was an interesting experiment! But it seemed to turn reasonably well.

Merry Christmas everyone!

We did prawns and, eventually, the ones we had were fabulous. We bought for a family gathering but had to be refunded on the first $100 worth after my oh paid $40 a kilo for "fresh" ocean king prawns. One taste on his return from the supposedly reputable dealer and they were chemical tasting and definately pre frozen. I rang them and they admitted their "fresh" prawns had been frozen (they were limp and yellow looking) and couldn't wait to quietly refund the oh on his return. Fortunately, we found somewhere else selling beautiful really fresh unfrozen ocean king prawns on Xmas eve afternoon, which took some doing... but the hunt was well worthwhile. The key we have learned is not to ask if the prawns are "fresh" (because they all say they are...) but to ask if they have "ever been frozen". Big difference in taste and quality. PS. The lovely really fresh prawns were significantly cheaper than the rip off ones too.
