You take something along as a contribution, then it all gets shared out (well it does here in SA anyhow).

Just before we jetted off on our hols to lovley QLD, we invited a fair fews friends around for the evening!

We told them any time from 6pm and i would do small finger food.

One party rolled up at 7.40pm and announced 'oh we've eaten already'

This really pissed me off, as they knew i had done food and the time was from 6pm! (perhaps i should have stipulated at 6pm)!!

any way, i digress!

They are having a 'do' this Sat!

Just had a text from 6pm, bring meat and plate!

I'm very tempted to take half a dozen crap sausages, eat before hand and turn up at 7.30pm!

Would you????????
Leave the sausages out just now so that theyre rotten come Sat,put garlic sauce on the plate to kill the pong but make sure you eat before you go.

I would eat a substantial meal before you go, then bring the spiciest food you can find - I mean REALLY spicy, proper ring-stingers that burn the choccy starfish on exit.

Then say 'Oh we have brought you this'. Then don't eat a thing and if they say anything just say 'We ate a three course meal earlier'

Watch them burn their mouths and then quickly go upstairs and swap their loo roll for the stiff paper stuff (Izal I think its called).

Break the toilet so it doesn't flush so that when they empty their burning exploding poo boxes, it will just build up.

Then as cool as a cucumber say 'Must go, had a lovely time, catch you later'

And as you go out of the door say 'Isn't that faeces I can smell? Someone has an upset stomach' - do that in your poshest voice.

(only joking of course, two wrongs don't make a right but it can be good fun pretending otherwise)

In my experience here, if you say 6pm don't expect anyone until 7pm so they were only 40 minutes late.

And then because they turned up late they didn't expect food and sorted themselves out - that seems like a polite thing to me not rude.

I've got no advice whatsoever mate, I'm afraid! I've tried and tried this 'making an effort to build friendships' thing and it just doesn't work.

Either we've got two heads and our kids are little devils, or we're from Mars and everyone else is from Venus.

I don't think I can be bothered with the dissapointment anymore

Things start to look promising and people seem genuine, but it's all a one way street and I'm fed up with it all.

Sorry - no help at all and ranting - not a good combination

Take Aston's Cheesecake and smash it in the host's face? OK, slightly OTT, but they would enjoy the 'Scooby Doo' moment afterwards.

I can never get over this 'bring meat and plate' thing

If i'm having a party i supply the booze and food, always have done. I find it rude to ask others to bring their own. But thats just me.

So i would go regardless...less the food. I would eat before i went anyway.
