Doing ANYTHING energetic in Cairns in wet season is not practical. It'll be way too humid to cycle.
+ Consider the practicalities of cycling in torrential downpours - this isnt just pissy UK rain - this is 'standing under an upturned bucket' rain. Theres a significant danger on 2 wheels. |

Not to mention the danger posed by those on four wheels. A cyclist was wiped out a couple of weeks ago and the general tenet of the comments in the Cairns post was that cyclists are fair game.

Re: would you cycle in cairns to work??
One thing that I really find annoying here in Cairns is the sheer number of cyclists who ride at night without lights. It's a real bugbear of mine at the moment, I've never seen (or nearly not seen) so many unlit bikes! I think it's something that the police need to really crack down on. They get responsible cyclists a bad name.

Stratford/Freshwater to the Hospital is ridable as as you can shower at work. There are back roads & paths you can take to avoid some of the traffic.
