AFL will die on its arse in about 20 years, hopefully sooner - its a minority sport amongst young Australians & its popularity is shrinking, its already been overtaken by football as the number 1 participation sport in Oz.

It will end up being played by a few bourbon & coke (a complete poofs drink by the way) swigging mulleted bogans (with names like Trent/Brent/Brant/Trant/Travis etc...do you get the picture) & Aboriginals in the country.

Got any proof for the former?

Don't know what to say about the latter

Riiiiiiiighhttt

Bear in mind there has been a proper organised league for Australian football longer than for any other kind of football. Why would it suddently die? Soccer has always had a higher participation level amongst young kids because - let's face it - you wouldn't want young kids playing a sport that rough.

The fact is that AFL attendances and memberships have increased every year for quite a few years now.

I don't quite get why people says AFL is a game for "poofs and softies" It is far more aggressive than softy Association Football where someone gets a prod with an elbow and they fall to the floor rolling in supposed agony It is similar in strength to American Football but without the scaredycat body armour and Rugby. Far more a "man's" game than Assoc. Soccer even if it is a smaller game world wide.

Agreed.

The game has about as much appeal as a two bit whore covered in spew outside a sleazy nightclub at 2am, Ok maybe I am being a bit hard on the whore but you get the picture.

Don't worry; I can tell the gold from the dross.

Had to laugh at the "softy" comment; even the Yanks admit that AFL is a lot rougher than gridiron - and unlike the Yanks, AFL players aren't covered with acres of padding and plastic armour.

Exactly how i feel about a 90 minute game where, if you're very lucky, you might see a couple of goals scored. Oh and a lot of girly screaming cos someone kicked their shin pad and messed their hair up. I quote.... "a game for wogs and sheilas"

I think you may have confused soccer with Netball - the number 1 participation sport in Aus.

Obviously with Aussie rules being the older football code it's going to take time for soccer to catch on.

Fair enough, then. I'm happy to admit that it's not my cup of tea either; I prefer to watch cricket. Soccer doesn't really do it for me, though I used to play for my school.

In anticipation of being deprived of the glorious Premiership I have been giving cricket a go. (Gulp)

Strange game but Sky have this great feature where by going interactive you get an explnation therules...ESSENTIAL for newbies.

Tell you what, judging by England's performance against Sri Lanka, I'm doing the right thing cos I'll be able to cheer on the Ozzies and always be on the winning side.

Cricket tho? I dunno!
