Worst gig ever
What's the worst you've ever been to? By far the most dire was Dr and the Medics when I was at Sheff Hallam in the early 90's. They were lucky to get out alive, but the only thing that saved them were the incredibly weird girls (twins?) who were completely synchronised in their movements.

Worked the door in The barrowland in Glasgow and one group were two guys with guitars(cant remember their names) who got spat on, hit with various objects and just generally abused. We had to move in and rescue them, getting covered in spit in the process. The crowd was getting restless to see Big Country, who accidently went down a treat. Well they were Scottish.;)

Gary Moore, Milton Keynes Bowl, 1986. Suffice to say he made Jethro Tull and Marillion look dynamic and interesting.

Re: Worst gig ever
Genesis at Wembley sometime in the 80s. We kept getting up to leave and then would think about the cost of the tickets and hang on in case they improved. They didn't :( We then had the usual 2 hour leaving Wembley Stadium carpark game. Only entertainment came when a couple of girls went around the cars asking guys if they'd lift the girls mini over a locked barrier instead of waiting for the procession out of the gates. I think there were about 20 lads lifting in the end and the girls drove off very happy

Re: Worst gig ever
two spring to mind, The Pointer Sisters (what did I expect?) and Gary Glitter (obviously years before all the hideous shit) but yeah he was rubbish and rather embarrassing frankly

Re: Worst gig ever
Marillion, Shepherds Bush Empire 96. My friend talked me into coming as I was a big fan in the mid-eighties when listening to Misplaced Childhood and Clutching at Straws on my morning paper round around the cornish country side.
Long gone was frontman Fish, big scotsman with big heart and big stage presence and instead was a fey middle classed english guy who sang soppy pop/rock and thought he was some kind of genius. Musically they were accomplished and polished but the Fish ear songs were scant and when played had no heart and the newer stuff was pomp rock. Crap gig. |
Re: Worst gig ever
I can't believe that I forgot this (well I can, I think I just placed it in a very dark recess in my mind that I hoped would never be opened). About 3 years ago when my little one had just been born, my parents got offered tickets to go see a band and gave them to us...having never heard of the chaps before and because it was being held on the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle (lots of justification stuff going on here) we went.
Il Divo, so jaw droppingly cheesy that my husband and I still shudder at the thought. We were embarrassed for ourselves being in the audience. ...We also had to lie through our teeth and say it was great. ...There are forms of war torture that I would willingly volunteer for rather than endure that night again. I never thought I would have to admit that in public. Go do your worst, I deserve it. |
Re: Worst gig ever
Worst gig ever was Blue!!!! Went with my sister and her three friends about 5 or 6 years ago, I didnt want to go in the first place, for some reason she just got me a ticket too!!!! I was bored out of my tree for nearly 2 hours, boy they really couldnt sing a note! the laugh about it was my sister and her mates were all in their 30's and they were bloomin squeeling like teenagers, one of them was even crying out for Duncan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Mondays at Barrowlands in Glasgow in about 1990, they were late and Shaun Ryder and Bez were intoxicated with god knows what - Shaun Ryder sat down on a chair for most of the gig!
