Default Why no old Chrissy songs?

Does any other Pom miss the old Christmas songs that used to get pulled out and played on the radio every year as much as I do? They just don't do it in OZ! I still have my old "It's Christmas Time" tape that I brought with me from the UK and I can only play in my car now because it's the only cassette deck I've got! It's got golden oldies like Roy Wood and Wizzard -I Wish it could be Christmas every Day, Elton John - Step Into Christmas, Gary Glitter -Another Rock & Roll Christmas, Slade - Merry Christmas Everyone, Jona Lewie - Stop the Cavalry, Queen -Thank God it's Christmas, Mud - Lonely this Christmas, and who else remembers that one by Steeleye Span - Gaudete (all sung in Latin). Every year I play it, it brings back such memories.....

No offence but Christmas is another eleven months away.

I have about 5 Christmas Compilation CDs which I'm only allowed to play on Christmas Day.

I definitely don't miss having them trotted out for months before Christmas

I'm with you on this one...definitiely miss the UK build up to Christmas, part of which are the songs on the radio; A Spaceman Came Travelling is one of my favourites although I dislike Chris de Burgh.

We were back in the UK in December, picked up the hire car, turned on the radio, and "Heart" were playing all the good ones!

Also the comilation CD gets a workout here when we are wrapping presents, putting up decorations, all that kind of thing.

I like a low key Christmas and Oz suits me just fine ... the only Christmas songs I play regularly are "A Fairytale Of New York" - The Pogues And Kirsty MacColl and "Merry ****ing Christmas" - South Park.

Can't stand most of the radio stations anyway ... MP3 + Shuffle =

"A Spaceman Came Travelling" is on mine too and I love it, but I didn't mention that one as I didn't think anyone would remember it! I also don't like Chris de Burgh, mainly after he was caught shagging the maid. I only play these at Christmas mind you, not all year round as some seem to think!!! PS: although I would never go back to live in the UK, I do also really miss the Christmas lights twinkling in the shop windows at dusk as everyone bustles around getting their Christmas shopping done. Just another part of Christmas in a cold climate...

I went to Kirsty MacColl's house when I was about 17/18 with some mates from the pub. She had recently moved into the area. She sat on her bed with a guitar and played a song. She got famous a few years later. She was a nice girl, sad ending to her life...

And people complain it's 'just as bad over here'. (Commercialism).

I have a CD.
