Newsflash - same thing in Australia. Not all of us have ICE-addicted, V8 driving, kiddie-fiddling, hoons terrorising our neighbourhood.

PMSL - yea, you get a completely balanced viewpoint from them...

You seem awfully knowledgeable about these posters for someone who only joined the forum this month. Been doing a lot of old-post reading have we?

Why? I mean, what purpose will moving here serve? If you love England so much, why move? I just don't get it. You love your life, you love your country, so you decide to up-sticks 12,000 miles round the planet to another country for the staggeringly amazing reason that you want to give Australia 'a go'? What does that mean? You want to find out for yourself that it's as shit as Grayling and Jadnrich would have you believe? What do you do on weekends, stick pins in your legs? I just don't understand what's in it for you?

Some people 'slag' England because they had shitty lives there - they don't have justify anything to anyone on that front.

Yea more rain, more kiddie-fiddlers, more ICE-addicts, more V8 driving hoons, more corrupt politicians (actually I'm prepared to believe that one), more of everything that's shit and less of everything that's good - come on over ... it's great!!!

like any forum m8
touch a nerve and out comes the have you been here before.

its you who has the need to justify your decision to move, if i come out i will do it for my reasons. i dont have to justify any of them to you.

grayling or frazer or jad n rich just try to balance out people like you with your shitty life bias. was that 150 spent on a problem or not? taking the piss will not alter that.

i have not said a bad word about australia and i wouldnt. i only know that your anti uk posts are tiresome and predictable (you're not alone in that)

btw
you dont know if i visited a castle m8, you only know that i could and that you cant.

interesting that you should think shopping at tesco's is so exciting :o
i suppose it would be if you had such a shitty life...;)

seriously
why dont you tell me how good aus can be (with some balance) rather than spend your time slagging the uk?
i cant see the point in looking backwards all the time.

Well i totaly agree with with the starter of this thread. Lets see the Uk introduce a points testing emigration system like Australia and get rid of all the no hopers who come to this country. maybe then people like us wont have to move to the other side of the world for a better life.

cheers steve

Australia had to introduce a points system, there were already sufficient quantities of no hopers living here.

Although I basically like the points system, I think it doesn't help with the need for unskilled workers in these countries.

The points system differentiates between "young+educated+work experience" vs "old+uneducated+no work experience" rather than "top peeps that'll improve society" vs "sh*ts"

Maybe that should be added to the points system?
Are you a sh*t ? Yes: -20 points

Of course you don't sweetheart, I wasn't asking you to justify it - just explain to simple old me, why you'd want to - you know, given how great England is .... I just don't understand what 'a go' is...

Shitty life bias? I like it. What does that mean? Are you a management consultant?

Could you link to an anti-uk post I made within the last year, since you've obviously been doing so much reading. Please. Thanks.

Poor old me. You know what? If you move here, you won't be able to either. Still want to come... you know, knowing you won't have ready access to Carmarthen or Warwick ...

Of course it is. Like all good British people I find it hard to exist without Tescos. In fact, if I'm being honest, I cry myself to sleep at night knowing those supermarkets are so far away from me. Just the other day I had a nervous breakdown because I realised I was 12,000 miles away from the nearest Tesco Finest Prawn Cocktail.

Again - could you point me in the direction of these million-and-one anti-uk posts of mine? I had my moments in the past, but I can't recall saying much against old blighty in the last year or so ... since I moved to Australia, I'm so much calmer than I used to be. :D

Hi, I don't post much on expats, but had to give my opinion on this. I live in melbourne, but at the moment i am in england seeing friends and family. When i was flying here i thought it would be just like it used to be when i left 19months ago. What a disappointment, we all wanted to fly back after the first week, things have gone downhill so much. I have 3 teenagers, if my kids went off like they do here they would be soon sorted out, there is no discipline what so ever. Everyone we talk to have said you have done the right thing by moving to Oz. It took me some time to settle in Oz, but seeing England again has made me realise i have done the right thing. We fly back next wednesday and we can't wait. We have been staying in Barnsley and Sheffield.

Ann-marie,

Got room in your bag for a worn, tatty paramedic who really needs a fresh day.
Do the birds cough in OZ? Until I visited Norway I thought that was the sound they naturally make!!

Guys, the reason i posted the thread in the first place is that I could'nt believe the original question. Perhaps its the job that is taking its toll. Any jobs for a professional ornithologist in Brisbane?

UK is fundamentally a safe place to live, but like anywhere there are polluted areas. Its just my experience these are getting larger, its nice to see your visit has confirmed it to those of us still left! Sometimes....... you know like when your in a DISCO and you dont realise how loud the music is until you step out and your ears ring.

PS will i need to pack my white suit?

Ive enjoyed reading this thread, the great thing about us as humans we all have a right to an opinion so if i say england is great i will get jumped on and alternativly if i say it is shite i will get jumped on.
All i can say and please jump all over me and kick me in the head i wouldnt work where the job is crap underpayed, overworked ect id get a new job and if i dont like where i lived id move away. My personal opinion i couldnt move back to uk in a million years i dont miss it atall although it has its good points. I personally cant wait to move to oz and if i dont like it in perth (should be ok spent 6 months there) il try somwhere else and then somwhere else. I dont have any kids or commitments so i can. I certainly wont sit whinging and complaining you only live once live life to the full!!!!!!!!

That's exactly what the UK government is doing:

Transparent, fair, rigorous and designed to suit the needs of the economy. No wonder the UK government has decided to craft its own system, which will become operational next year, on the Australian model.

UK immigration minister Liam Byrne even went as far as to unveil the timetable after a photo opportunity at Sydney Airport, half a planet away from Westminster.

"Migration has to support Britain's national interest," he said. "A new Australian-style points system will be simpler, cheaper, and easier to enforce. Crucially it will give us the best way of letting in only those people who have something to offer Britain."

But the points system does have drawbacks.

Just ask Lee Alexander, a British IT specialist working in Sydney, who just falls short of the number of points required.

Lee and his family love living here. His firm, which is presently sponsoring him, thinks he does a terrific job. He has specialist computing skills ideally suited to the needs of the Australian economy. But his curriculum vitae is bereft of one salient entry - a degree.

"It's a strange position," says Lee. "I have the necessary skills Australia is looking for. But I'm not a graduate, so I'm about five to 10 points short of the required number to work here full time."

In some instances, the points system arguably makes it too hard to get in and sets criteria that are too rigid.
Beeb.

It will be interesting to see what impact this has on immigration.

Trouble is points based entry to the UK seems all well and good, but it won't stop people coming in on lorries from across the channel. Where there's a will there is a way unfortunately.

I am assuming you are in OZ now. Was just wondering when you were last in the Uk,more to the point Birmingham? Unless it has been in fairly recent times I dont really see how you can be 100% accurate in any such comparison. I think youre wrong to slag off Tetley for having an opinion. i have heard freedom of speech is alive and well in Oz,or is that a misconception?
