I can't see how you can physically do it, unless:
a) you're sitting really really close to the wheel, or
b) you're actually lying, your right hand isn't on the wheel at all, its just flopping around aimlessly inside the car, whilst your elbow enjoys the breeze.

ps - you are trying to look cool. Go on. Admit it.
OK tino, i'm trying to look cool

and yes, i sit close to the wheel cos my legs ain't very long

Wow, I lay back in the passenger seat with my feet resting on the wing mirror
Makes changing gear difficult

Just found some links for you, so I dont think it is all tosh http://theage.drive.com.au/owning-ti...1216-kw2i.html

Look, I can only go on what was taught on the course - Corporate Driver Training www.cdta.com.au

But then again we are all taught differently arent we? I happen to think those that think speeding is acceptable are idiots but my friend was taught 'keep up with the flow of traffic'.

Some company cars have the lights go on as soon as the engine starts, as do some of the newer motorbikes, so there must be something in it.

I think mine is suited for a semi-automatic as it fits both parts of the description most of the time.

Try reading this official report done by the european road safety commission instead of articles on driving tips. Pay particular attention to the part about motorbikes, basically they are saying if everyone has lights on then its near on impossible to distinguish a motorcycle from any other vehicle. How can that be road safe?

http://ec.europa.eu/transport/road_s...ty_devices.htm

The link I previously posted said the whole headlight thing while driving was started by Greyhound buses in the US initially as a gimmick.

Are you the sort of driver that hasn't had any accidents but seen plenty in her mirrors? ala driving miss daisy

I think it's a stupid law too. I mean if people were having their limbs torn off on a daily basis the world over, it would make sense.

I drive with my windows shut and the air con on anyway.

Actually I am meant to be driving to the gym this morning but I will cycle instead and I shall have both elbows flapping away.
Indeed. ONCE I almost lost control of my ute when I hit a bad hole on Thompson's Road. One hand on the wheel did not help.

The law is an ass but is sometimes based on sound reasoning. I mean you are in control of over a ton of machinery. It's not a game.

And yes, it is actually enforced. I know someone who got done this week.

Which idiot wasted time bringing that one in?

Because the fines in general that they dish out are pissing ridiculous... but someone is bound to come on and say "its the law, so get over it"...

Total bollox... end of.

I drive one handed all the time, I drive a manual shift and I have to change the gears once in every while.. occassionally I change the radio channel or perhaps insert a cd into the player... In general I adopt the 10 to 10 stance upon the steering wheel but feel free to extract a few hundred bucks for the odd time that I don't !

I would not be game to stick my arm out of the window people are a little close and personal in our traffic in Melbourne.

Besides we have aircon, heating who needs to open the windows

Passengers aren't in control of the ton of machinery, since they aren't the ones driving. Why do they have to be completely inside?

It has nothing to do with controlling the vehicle methinks.

Use the steering wheel gear-paddles. Quite easy if you have a late model Ferrari or Mercedes AGM.......
