why emigrate anywhere in a recession?

I've been watching avidly about emigrating anywhere, the recession is world wide, why risk it anywhere.

Local folk are going to give local jobs, that makes sense why should those moving across the world be shocked at no jobs, where have they been?

Crocodileseamus, on wine:p:p:p

It's all relative, meaning it makes no difference where you live - you'll still be affected by it.

Re: why emigrate anywhere in a recession?

I think some of the people you seen on here now who are struggling are just very unfortunate victims of timing rather than bad planning on their part. The situation has detiorated very quickly, while at the same time some people's plans would have been so advanced - houses sold, jobs packed in etc - that they had little choice but to keep going in that direction.

Some of the people who post about their struggles finding work have been here since before Aus really came to the recession party. They probably read lots of bullish posts on here before they left - there used to be plenty of them!

I'm guessing it's probably hard to pull back from the dream once you've set it in motion.

I can only speak for me, but my dream has always been there for me, but I have 4 kids to consider, money and material things for me don't matter, but it does make life easier. I am a great believer if you are a wanker money makes you a greater wanker and if you are Ok it won't change you. But I have to say you can llive anywhere in the world and be a wanker or otherwise. Life is certainly what you make it!

Depends what you do for a living. Now if you were a doctor in India and could go to the UK for a better lifestyle and a higher income, would the recession really matter ?

The wine seems to be effecting your caps button :D

Haven't the UK tightened up on work permits for doctors now? Just an aside. I was reading something to that effect recently.

If people are aware of how things are and they have enough saved to see them through, have their visa then its up to them.

Is there ever a good time to get married, have children, buy a house, if we all waited for a good time we would never move or do anything. :D

If you are in a country with no support from anyone but you for the first 2 years, it makes life possible.

Yes and be under no illusions you can make a complete sh1t of it

I think the piont stands that most people leaving now planned this in early late 2007 - 2008. Things we not as bad as portrayed now in the UK.

People who are planning now are just looking to get away or like you always wanted to make the move. They should be able to see the dangers but are prepared to face them.

A recession does not mean everyone should stop doing everything sit on their hands and wait for someone in the media to tell them its over.

Re: why emigrate anywhere in a recession?

In our circumstances it is our age that is against us which is why we need to go in September or we don't go at all.

I have friends and family who work in various industries here in the uk. I have been told that it will take until at lease 2013 for the economy to get back to where it was just over a year ago but more likely 2017. I have also been told that house prices are very unlikely ever to return to the peak valuations we saw in 2007 and 2008.
