Re: When shall I resign??
How much notice do you have to give?
If it's 4 weeks (for example) ask for 4 weeks between exchange and completion and resign as soon as you exchange. Then you complete as you finish work. Maybe before if you have holidays etc owing. If you don't need the money resign now. LOL.:thumbsup::thumbsup: |
Re: When shall I resign??
Good one!
I couldn't decide either, then I got made redundant and our landlord sold our house, thus absolving me from responsibility or decision making  Resign 18th Nov Leave 19th Dec (cash in on all the Xmas parties, boozing, feasting, merriment, etc) Leave on Dec 27th. disclaimer: no responsibility can be accepted by the pursers for any damage or distress caused by following any advice offered, due to clinical insanity caused by visa stress..... Enjoy the magic, special moment of giving your notice in to emigrate!! |

Edit 4 weeks notice to say 8!!!! |
Re: When shall I resign??
well do you need to fly soon after you finish work or would it be better to have a week or sos holiday to arrange the shipping?
personally i would wait until a contracts have been exchanged so that you know your sale cant fall through and put notice in then and go do the rounds of the rellies after house sold and stuff shipped then fly to Oz or give notice for the 3rd of Jan so you get paid over the xmas hols cos it might be hard to arrange stuff in Oz over xmas |

Re: When shall I resign??
Way to go Daunted!!! I still have my exit survey sitting on the desk waiting to be done - butt will be kicked but no one will take any notice. I will feel better though:p
As for giving notice - only give the notice that your employer requires. For me it was 2 weeks but it may be 4 weeks where you are. If you work in schools, if it is anything like here, then you need to go back for the first day of term at least so that you will get paid for the holiday over Christmas. No one will think any the worse of you for doing what is in your best interests - they all do it too, you can bet! Dont burn your bridges until you have other things signed and sealed though. Given the reported weird property market at the moment, wait until you have the money in your hot little hand just in case you have to postpone things! |

Re: When shall I resign??
I'm not going to resign until I get the call that the house sale has gone through and is completed.
|
Re: When shall I resign??
Will wait for contracts to exchange. Only problem is I have to give 3 months notice! What's the worse they can do if your contract says 3, but you only give 1?
|
Re: When shall I resign??
I definately shouldnt give you an answer!
(being the muppet who broke her leg the same day of handing in notice - whilst smugly informing am that id loathed the job) |
Re: When shall I resign??
no daunted
I would definitely wait till you had the ok, which you most likely will recieve at end of oct or nov, then I would diffinitely leave at the end of term dec. The new year Jan. 08 does not involve working in the uk. Its the new start for you and your family in oz. siobhan |
Re: When shall I resign??
also immigrating causes a lot of stress to someone, and if you feel bad about your workplace, then I would recommend you take a few weeks off with stress, around november etc. during this time of stress you could get more organised. Then go back for your final farewell, and enjoy your last cold xmas.
