Whats your favourite song lyrics ever

Here's my favourite

Man gets tired, spirit don't
Man surrenders, spirit won't
Man crawls, spirit flies
Spirit lives, when man dies

Man seems, spirit is
Man dreams, spirit lives
Man is tethered, spirit free
What spirit, is man can be

Spirit by the waterboys

Crikey! That brings back memories of my misspent youth. Was that particular one written by Guy Chambers?

My favourite lyric is

Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like a memphis above the Serengetti

just because who'd have thought you could fit that into a song lyric??!!??

Ohohoh ohohoh
Ohohoh ohohoh-vengaboys are back in town
Ohohoh ohohoh
Ohohoh ohohoh
Ohohoh ohohoh
Ohohoh ohohoh

If youre alone and you need a friend
Someone to make you forget your problems
Just come along baby take my hand
I need a lover tonight

Ohohoh ohohoh-this is what I want to do
Ohohoh ohohoh-lets have some fun
Ohohoh ohohoh-one on one just me and you
Ohohoh ohohoh

Boom boom boom boom
I want you in my room
Lets spend the night together
From now until forever
Boom boom boom boom
I wanna go boom boom
Lets spend the night together
Together in my room

Ohohoh ohohoh-everybody get on down
Ohohoh ohohoh-vengaboys are back in town
Ohohoh ohohoh-this is what I wanna do
Ohohoh ohohoh-lets have some fun
Ohohoh ohohoh-one on one just me and you

Ohohoh ohohoh
Ohohoh ohohoh
Ohohoh ohohoh
Ohohoh ohohoh
Ohohoh ohohoh

They wrote these profound lyrics during their renaissance-come-experimental phase. Everything they wrote after this was just SO maintstream:thumbdown:

Personally I cant stand Pink Floyd. The thought of my own Mum, wearing flares and swaying around a field in a haze of dope smoke just horrifies me but their lyric to 'Time' were very profound.

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

Pretty much sums up my time in Australia.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but its sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but youre older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the english way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought Id something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
Its good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.
