Yes I'm on a roll with the "What best" threads.

So after buying what I thought was going to be a great Olive Oil and turned out to be very ordinary... I decided to ask this question.

My worst vote so far goes to the Italian Lupi Brand, No flavour whatsoever... Best to Spains Moro's Extra Virgin, plenty of flavour.

However I've got a feeling that this is one area where the Aussie brands could actually be better.

So whats your recommendation please.

Cheese is easy. Olive oil, meh.

Honestly, unless I'm doing something fancy with a bit of dukkah, which requires a good virgin, I couldn't care less what type of olive oil I use, so long as it's light flavoured.

My opinion here is probably unsavoury, but even Coles olive oil seems ok.

We use Cobram Estate. Not sure it's the best but it's Aussie (so keeping the carbon miles down) and we usually pick up a couple of cans half price when Woolies put it on special.

Red Island if we're using it for dipping bread, whichever large can of Australian is on special in Woolies for general usage. I love olive oil.

Me too...Thats the one I was looking for.. forgetten it's name... I think there are some batches of other Olive Oils that hit the supermarkets now and again from the Shepparton and Malee regions that the local Italians and Greeks say is as good as it gets.. Dont ever bother with the Lupi MP.

Trying to present decent fare to our Mediterranean heritage Friends can be quite daunting sometimes. Ive got a secret weapon in my arsenal at present though... I've sourced some home made Salamis and Cappacuolo from a work mates Father... who made us a batch this year.

Turban... dont you eat antipasto dishes ? It's a big part of the cuisine around these parts of Melbourne.

There isn't much choice here so I just get anything - and no I don't seem to eat much antipasto I guess as it's mainly meat. Sorry if I dissed your olive oil thread OE.

I lived on the Med for a very long time, so I am a bit particular about my evoo My favourite has to be the Greek Brand "Minerva"
This is my favourite and the Kalamata Oil is lovely. My least favourites have to be anything that says "light" in the name and the La Espanogla etc.

Regards
Deb

I would also give + to Greek olive oil over Spanish oil , the only different oil we use is Rice Bran Oil for cooking fish in the grill as it has a higher smoke point.
