Rangers is a dynamic outdoor, camping program for school aged children and youth. Weekly meetings include games, stimulating program periods where we learn about camping in the great outdoors and inspirational devotions - where we connect to God in a meaningful and relevant way.

I love that here even official places call me Penny.
My reasons for feeling strongly against my kids' friends calling me by my christian name is more of a familiarity/respect thing really. I'm not one of their pals - I'm a parent of one of their pals. I would much rather maintain a healthy fear/distance from them so that they know my kids are not to be messed with. My own kids as I've said before I try to have a big brother kind of relationship which for me provides a good balance of friendship and respect. And of course I can manage that balance as necessary - I can't do that with their friends who come and go and can be their friends one minute, enemies the next.

The Auntie/Uncle thing is more normal in South Africa and has a slightly different meaning to it's usage in the UK. It's used as a single word: Auntie or Uncle without the christian name following it - it's more of an amiable acknowlegement that the person addressed in that way is the elder and is to be afforded due respect.

I also like the Americans' use of "Sir" and "Ma'am". It's a cornerstone of the generally good manners which they are famous for.

It's true though about it promoting good manners and respect..... The end justifies the means . It would probably sound funny with a Scottish accent though

I prefer to be called by my first name and nothing else, that's what a name is for. All my kids friends call me by my first name. I hate being known as 'the missus, our lass, thingys mum'
Just my name will do.

Admittedly, these days most adopt the first name convention. I'm not convinced that it's the best but each to their own

So many Christians on here.

I HATE being asked "What's your Christian name?". I am not a Christian and do not have one. I have a first given name.
