Hey guys, Im in a bit of a dilemma. As everyone is aware if you are an applicant not on the CSL then your visa wont be processed until late 2011/2012. I am a 23 year old electrician with a good job over here planning to move to Perth. I have never been to Australia before and my problem is because my visa wont be processed until 2012 I will be 27 and possibly may have a family to care for or a wife who is dead against the move to Oz. Im scared Im going miss the boat to get out there now while im single. I have been turned down by employers in Oz so it looks like there is no chance for an ENS visa. My agent is advising me to do a years working visa out in Oz but my company over here wont let me take a year off! and my agent is hoping that in the year Im out there my visa would have been processed and I can stay. But if it isnt then I will have to come back to no job and back to where I started. So Im just asking for some advice really? Would anyone risk going for a year and hope your visa is waiting for you or do I play it safe and hope I dont meet anyone? Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys!

You are only young once.

Why not give it a try.

I came here with wife and family, and love it, but wish we had taken the plunge years ago.

If it doesnt work out, you can return, look for work, and get on with life again. Yes it might cost money, but if you dont do it, you might regret it for the rest of your life. That is even worse IMO.

Bit of a catch 22, got a decent job back home so don't want to jump ship but if you don't you might miss out completely...it's a toughie!

My OH and I are here on WHV's, he's also an electrician. I'm 21 and he's 25, we both had good jobs and career prospects back home but decided that travelling and the adventure was too much to miss out on while we're still young without kids and had the opportunity. Our deposit for our first house became our travelling fund and we just went for it!

The OH had been here before for 3 months and had decided then that he would come back one day to live. You said you'd never been here before yet you're looking to move to Perth, mate, I'd suggest a visit first! A WHV is such a good way to travel around and see the country first hand, you don't need tons of money either, (although flights are pretty pricey) you can always wwoof if money is tight and it's an excellent way to get right into a community and get a real feel for it.

As you're looking at migrating I'm sure you're well aware that you need your electrical licence to work out here but hey, if you got your second WHV then got your electrical licence onshore you might be able to get work as a sparks and get sponsorship on a 457 or possible ENS 856. I would have thought you'd have better luck sourcing work and possible sponsors if you're actually over here and can work.

I don't want to make it sound all rosy, we've been here almost a year and it's been the toughest year of our lives but we're sticking it out and currently have a possible ENS sponsor :fingerscrossed:

At the end of the day, only you can decide but for us, as sh*t as it has been at times and as close as we've come to having to go back, we don't regret it and it's made us determined to get residency one way or another.

Thanks very much for all your advice guys. LisaIan I am in the same position as you was I have money for a deposit for a house but if I go I will be spending that money on visiting Australia. My parents want me to stay and wait because if I invest in a house the money I make on that over the years will be more than I can save each year. But guys at work think Im crazy and should just go for a year. But my Parents say why go for a year be out of pocket and be in the same situation Im in now. I really wish the australian goverment didnt change the rules!
