Yesterday I found myself verbally raging at the TV as the OH was was watching the 7pm project...sorry "The Project". I belive I called Bob Katter a c*** out loud.

"The Project" contains the spectacularly unfunny w*nker Dave Hughes. He is of the opinion that if you say something insular and racist and shout a bit at the end of a sentence, whilst pulling a stupid goggly eyed retarded face, then its really funny. I put Peter Hellier in the same category. And how the hell did Carried Bickmore get a job in TV, she is useless. Often reading serious news stories involving lots of death in a 'this is a light hearted show' voice, making it sounds like its a joke itself. idiot.

Pretty much all news shows are a joke in Australia. The stuff they report is comical, and unless it involves painting Australia in a glorious light, it doesn't get a look in. It just shrieks of tall poppy syndrome. The exception being SBS World News, which actually presents the viewer with some actual news.

The fact that we are called whinging poms is hypocritical (*). I have not met a nation who whinges as much as Australia. Classic examples are Today Tonight and A Current Affair amongst other things . Its all just a load of guff about the same stories over and over again. "Its a rort". "Its un-Australian", "We just want a fair go" etc

Good news week can f**k off too.

Then there's the cop/rescue/criminal shows with the same cast/plot/settings.

All of this punctuated by loads of glorious adverts, often twice in the same ad break.

Finally there's the misleading promotional editing of shows. I thought that new show with Dicko, Can of Worms, was going to be a show about the general public's opinion on issues. Could be good. This was how it was painted for about 3 weeks before it began. It was only on the day that they made it more clear that it was in fact another 'celebrity panel opinion' show, and ultimately was a load of crap because of it.

Sometimes words are edited out to give the opposite meaning to what's being said in the show itself. The Amazing Race was an example of this, there was a promo which had some hot girl spill a load of red wine from a barrel and her boyfriend shouted at her:

On the promo he said "the reason you spilled that is because you're an idiot"
on the show, he actually said "the reason you spilled that its NOT because you're an idiot"

I'm not sure you've got the gist of the tall poppy syndrome. It's about knocking people down rather than building oneself up.

Agree with the comments on Dave Hughes. He's obviously someone trading on a past glory which happened before I arrived.

I voted for two and a half men as I feel I should pick one, and that one is the stand out from the list. Unfunny repetitive jokes.

Channels 7,9 and 10 should all be axed until they can live off 10% of advertising that they currently show.

Worth pointing out that ABC and SBS probably get more respect from me than any english or irish tv channel.

I actually don't mind Good News Week ... the rest of In Exile's post is spot on though. Thank God for torrents.

Funny, last night my OH was watching this and she said' Have you noticed how much better tracy grimshaw looks after gordon ramsey called her a fat lesbian. She's really made some changes"

i just re-read your post and it says "Julia" as clear as day, not sure how I could have missed it.
I think subconsciously I just wanted to tell my 'grimshaw-is-a-fat-lesbian' anecdote.

Actually I had some respect for Julia over that "incident". Some journo asked her what she thought about the spat between Ramsey and Grimshaw and she replied in a slightly jovial voice something about it being nothing to do with politics. She kicked it into touch without breaking stride. On the other hand our glorious leader Kev was appalled by the whole thing. :D
