1) The weather Immensely better here, though some summer days can be extremely hot and very humid, and winter indoors can be cold (no central heating)
2) Litter. Better here.
3) Dog mess. Better here.
4) Chewing gum on pavements. Better here.
5) Yob / Chav / Knife culture. Better here. Less of this than major cities such as London, but more than small villages. Sydney is, in my view, experiencing far more crime nowadays especially among younger people. Australia Day at Coogee was messy - me and my family arrived and left immediately.
6) Lack of respect for others. Better here
7) Lack of respect for property Same. Lots of graffitti and window etching here (more than I ever saw in the UK). There is not one bus without half of the windows completely etched with tags. Graffitti is mostly on public property and communal bits of apartment blocks.
8) Compensation culture - always someone else's fault for life's problems. Worse here. NSW has very high numbers of compensation claims.
9) Adoration of so called 'celebrities'. Far better here (excluding sports-people).
10) Reality TV. Better here (less of it): though TV in general is far worse. Only one good channel (ABC, aka BBC), and one OK channel SBS. Commercial TV is utterly abysmal.
11) Obsession with money. Worse here. Read 'Affluenza' by Clive Hamilton.
12) Buy now, pay never culture. Same or worse here. 30 year mortgages are normal.
13) The doom and gloom press reporting. Far better here. The opposite tends to be true, i.e. biased/selective reporting. Especially true over issues in which the media has vested interests, e.g. house prices.
14) Too many managers in businesses. Same. In terms of NSW public service, far worse.
15) Unwillingness to live within one's means. Same.

I thought I would put down the things I don't like about the UK and if anyone could comment as to whether these things are better or worse in Australia I'd appreciate it!
Here goes... We're Northside of Brisbane and came from Hampshire
1) The weather 'kin hot at the moment, and very humid but overall so much better. I can personally live with changing my shirt 3 times a day for a few weeks to live with the rest of the year
2) Litter Massively better, far, far less than UK
3) Dog messNo contest, hardly ever see any
4) Chewing gum on pavementsSee above
5) Yob / Chav / Knife cultureAgain, far better, but as others have said it really does depend on your area. There are some places I wouldn;t go near with anyone elses bargepole let alone my own
6) Lack of respect for others Generally better, more respect from kids as a general rule although this is catching up slowly with the UK
7) Lack of respect for property Again, generally far better, but as someone else mentioned graffitti is rife. But then it is in the UK
8) Compensation culture - always someone else's fault for life's problems Yeah, same old, same old
9) Adoration of so called 'celebrities' Sorry, no difference - but there seems to be less discussion in offices than in UK about what Paris Hilton is doing (Thank God!)
10) Reality TV I think there's less than the UK, but not by much
11) Obsession with money Same old, same old
12) Buy now, pay never culture Yep
13) The doom and gloom press reporting As someone said, some do, some keep on being positive to the extent of blinkers
14) Too many managers in businesses Thank the Americans, its now universal
15) Unwillingness to live within one's means See 12

There is a massive pride in being Australian and Queenslanders here (I'm only talking about where I live ok?) and personally I don't see anything wrong in that. IMHO there's too little of it in Britain.
There is a far stronger community spirit and that shone through after the storms in November and was frankly wonderful to see and be a part of.
I don't care what anybody says, we have found Australians to be fantastically welcoming to all three of us. This is possibly because one of the first questions we get asked is how are you finding Australia, and when they get told how much we love it we've been welcomed with more than open arms. But then who wants to welcome someone who hates the place, its not unreasonable really!
And its an unbelievably beautiful place to live in.

Re: What I don't like about the UK...
It is a well known fact that Australia is far superior to the UK. That is the reason why Australia has more people of working age living overseas than any developed country on Earth many of them in UK.

Re: What I don't like about the UK...
Yes there really are pros and cons. An elderly couple said to us some time ago that the golden age of Australia was well and truly over. If warm/hot weather is the most important thing in one's life, then Australia will not disappoint. Otherwise, most people will find there are pros and cons and on most issues there is not really a clear 'winner'.

Re: What I don't like about the UK...
Been on Sunshine Coast for 2 months, yes that long;
1) The weather
Beautiful, haven't worn socks or trousers since arriving. A perfect blend of weather.. clear, clouds, both. Exciting weather in impressive thunderstorms and heavy rain at times, but not too often. Best part is not having to deal with the cold in the mornings, getting in/out of shower, the piercing ice cold water from tap, scampering for clothes, ye my heating was poor in the UK Feels very pleasant, you'll love the warmth and start to like the rain, you'll love the clouds since it can be cloudy and still shorts and tshirt. You'll feel like getting out more and the humid heat subdues you into feeling more relaxed, relaxed enough to even enjoy watching cricket!
2) Litter
Very tidy considering people eat out more.
3) Dog mess
There are free dog bags provided I think, doesn't seem to be a problem, better than UK, though I did see a massive one, possibly human, down near the caravan park in Cottontree(lovely place). Dam tourists. A lot more killer dogs than UK, pit bull terriers, etc. A few attacks in past month on news(not on sunshine coast though), the UK has been through this many years ago when newspapers had blitz on the subject, seems Oz has yet to learn.
4) Chewing gum on pavements
Ain't seen any.
5) Yob / Chav / Knife culture
None, but a greater 'hoon culture', boyracers as the UK call them. The streets are built for cars and not pedestrians, I prefer this as there are plenty of walkways to compensate.
6) Lack of respect for others
Much worse than UK, you will miss the politeness of Britain. I think it comes from Australian culture being heavenly influenced by USA. On the whole there are many more respectful than disrespectful people here. Out of the bad, I find its the males in particular, loud and brash, talk out loud their private life's showing no value for self privacy, swearing without thought about who's around. Doing what they want, when they want, even if it wakes the neighbours up at 3am. I think I've seen the worse since I'm living in close proximity to quite a few others. Customer service is worse, sometimes excellent, mostly good, but little, even though too often, its disgraceful.
7) Lack of respect for property
Not sure.
8) Compensation culture - always someone else's fault for life's problems
Not sure, less adverts I think.
9) Adoration of so called 'celebrities'
Not sure.
10) Reality TV
Not sure.
11) Obsession with money
Not sure, but I guess there's many pom's that moved over here for materialistic reasons and now the economy is going tits up they are freaking out on these boards, one even moved to Germany.
12) Buy now, pay never culture
500 days Interest free!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on anything in a shop
13) The doom and gloom press reporting
They report truth and they also freely report the biased. UK press is better, but I really like the local TV news, which is very area specific, don't get that in the UK for small cities.
14) Too many managers in businesses
Not sure.
15) Unwillingness to live within one's means.
Worst home value to wage ratio in the world and still they are ramming deals down your throat, 10k towards rent!, 21k first time buyer!, no deposit!, pay later!, be quick because these houses will sell! this is a good time to buy! buyers market! I think they are scrapping the barrel for the last of the credit before the crunch.
Overall its frigging amazing compared to the UK, but you need to ask the right questions! Feels more safe, friendly, pleasant, and clean. Feels less industrial, advanced and democratic. Its seems like the UK is ahead, but Oz is advancing at a faster pace and will take over.

Re: What I don't like about the UK...
All of those points are present in australia as well. The only thing that I would say is different is that you put down the weather. I take it you mean the rain and cold in the UK. Well here in aus you have to deal the heat, flies and sun.
At least in the UK when it gets cold you can put on extra clothes or a coat, here you have to strip off what you can but theres a limit to that so instead you just suffer in it. The first times you start to see moles and frecles appearing all over is also something you never have to deal with in the UK. Then when you see people with the telltale white square bandage patches on there head, arms, neck in the street you realise exactly what trouble those little moles that have appeared can be.
Those are things you dont have to deal with in the UK, for me I am finding the heat the worst, I live under aircon all day now, its fine up to 30 degrees but then it just gets to much.
So enjoy the rain and the cool breezes while you can in the UK

1) It's warmer and sunnier in Australia...but more chance of skin cancer.
2) No different.
3) No different.
4) Maybe less gum on pavements in Australia but WAY WAY WAY more graffiti.
5) There's yobs and hooligans everywhere in the world.
6) No different.
7) Worse - many Aussie cities have a big graffiti and vandalism problem.
8) Australia has very tight rules on just about everything - I'm surprised you can fart in public here. As a result it's harder to claim benefits and things here.
9) Australia's media is smaller scale in general - they don't have celebrities in the same way here. They worship their cricketers and AFL players instead. Is that better for you?
10) Plenty of that in Australia. It's Channel 10's entire year's programming.
11) Is there an English-speaking nation that ISN'T obsessed with money???
12) No different.
13) Instead you have to hear about how wonderful Australia and Aussies are the whole bloody time.
14) No different. Why would it be?
15) No different. Why would it be?

Actually - change #6......
.... Aussie's are much more blunt (rude at times) and over-assertive (aggressive at times) than people in the UK. British people try not to offend you. Aussie's don't care and mistakenly believe that they're better for it.
