What I don't like about the UK...
I thought I would put down the things I don't like about the UK and if anyone could comment as to whether these things are better or worse in Australia I'd appreciate it!
Here goes...
1) The weather
2) Litter
3) Dog mess
4) Chewing gum on pavements
5) Yob / Chav / Knife culture
6) Lack of respect for others
7) Lack of respect for property
8) Compensation culture - always someone else's fault for life's problems
9) Adoration of so called 'celebrities'
10) Reality TV
11) Obsession with money
12) Buy now, pay never culture
13) The doom and gloom press reporting
14) Too many managers in businesses
15) Unwillingness to live within one's means
The list could go on.....

Maybe in Brisbane
1) The weather (nope, not where we are in Melbourne)
2) Litter (not here)
3) Dog mess (not here)
4) Chewing gum on pavements (not here)
5) Yob / Chav / Knife culture (not here)
6) Lack of respect for others (some people have zero respect for others but I guess that's like most areas. Around here it's the occasional brush haircut, rat tailed, white baseball cap types )
7) Lack of respect for property (not here)
8) Compensation culture - always someone else's fault for life's problems (A product of the 1st world sadly)
9) Adoration of so called 'celebrities' (sadly a global phenomenon)
10) Reality TV (sadly a global phenomenon)
11) Obsession with money (not here)
12) Buy now, pay never culture (isn't that everywhere and a result of marketing and pressure sales)
13) The doom and gloom press reporting (not really)
14) Too many managers in businesses (I'm my own manager so can't comment)
15) Unwillingness to live within one's means (not here)

Re: What I don't like about the UK...
[I'm also in Melbourne, not far from BiGAPE
1) The weather - lots better at all times of year except for severe heat occasionally in summer.
2) Litter - not a lot
3) Dog mess - none
4) Chewing gum on pavements - none
5) Yob / Chav / Knife culture - none
6) Lack of respect for others - not really evident here. eg I find teenage schoolchildren on the trains polite, they even offer me a seat (I am not exactly elderly)
7) Lack of respect for property - quite a bit of graffiti, not as much as UK.
8) Compensation culture - always someone else's fault for life's problems - don't know.
9) Adoration of so called 'celebrities' - yes quite a bit of this.
10) Reality TV - lots and lots but I particularly like Border Security and Surf Patrol.
11) Obsession with money - not so great as UK I think
12) Buy now, pay never culture - not sure
13) The doom and gloom press reporting - much much less of this
14) Too many managers in businesses - yep (I work for massive international company)
15) Unwillingness to live within one's means - not sure
Buzzy

Like everywhere there's good and bad stuff here. You just have to focus more on the positives than the negatives. Change what you can and accept what you can't.
I personally think Australia is great...but then the UK wasn't so bad either.
or in the swimming pool (that's what I have done today in the 44 degree heat )

I really really really want to agree with you on this...but I can't.
1) The weather- Some people might not like 43 degree weather. (I'm bathing in it now)
2) Litter- There is litter if you look hard enough but the councils particularly in touristy area's namely CBD's work hard to keep it clean.
3) Dog mess- I saw some dog sh*t today...a quaker had 7 dogs on a leash...doubt he'd be cleaning it up after em!
4) Chewing gum on pavements- nope haven't seen that but I have seen it on bus seats so its out there!
5) Yob / Chav / Knife culture- inner suburbs have plenty of gang culture going on where kids are shot and stabbed.
6) Lack of respect for others- This is human nature thing.
7) Lack of respect for property- again human nature thing...not dependant on geo-graphical situations.
8) Compensation culture - always someone else's fault for life's problems- not been here long enough to hear any stories about that.
9) Adoration of so called 'celebrities'- 'most' Aussie kids ADORE celeb culture. They all wanna be rich and famous...believe me. They think Paris Hilton is a godess.
10) Reality TV- again same story with point number 9
11) Obsession with money- yes its a modern world thing...
12) Buy now, pay never culture- finance deals being offered on every ad I have read or seen
13) The doom and gloom press reporting- same around the world!
14) Too many managers in businesses- umm pass.
15) Unwillingness to live within one's means- some aussies are ungrateful for what they have...sadly this is just like most modern world countries.. we're ALL spoilt. We just dont know it.
But to conclude...I like it here in Adelaide/Australia and like Wendy hope to love it to someday.

2) Probably a bit better here
3) A lot better here - dog control is pretty strictly enforced in Brisbane at least.
4) Similar
5) Doesn't seem to be as big a problem around these parts but there are stories on the news from different areas.
6) Generally way less of a problem here, though we have seen some exceptions. Our rental is for sale at the mo and a woman drove down the drive to the back of the house the other day to get a better look
7) I don't see so much physical damage as in the UK but graffiti is a huge problem.
8) Hahaha! You can't be serious? In fact I'm offended and personally hurt by that remark. Expect a letter from my lawyers.
9) Hmmmm
10) Oh dear ....
11) See above
12) Erm, .... see above
13) There is some of that and plenty of the opposite. The standard of journalism is pretty terrible here on the whole so is easy to ignore
14) Same the world over

Re: What I don't like about the UK...
LOL wont be much different here im afraid
1) The weather
We are having 4 days of 40 + heat this week, not fun
2) Litter
Have you seen the streets in Melbourne, for many Australians the street is the dustbin and the dustbin is somewhere to put lit ciggies that starts fires.
3) Dog mess
Ive seen human feaces on the pavement in Fitzroy, that or a bear sized dog is walking around
4) Chewing gum on pavements
How about vomit, gum, phlegm, last nights take away, needles, etc etc
5) Yob / Chav / Knife culture
Yay no chavs, but plenty of white trash, mullets, or typical australians, who know everything, are experts in everything and to them the rest of the world is terrible compaired to the heavan that is Australia.
6) Lack of respect for others
Well you havent met many Australians have you, I dont think respect is in the Australian dictionary
7) Lack of respect for property
See above
8) Compensation culture - always someone else's fault for life's problems
No change here, i work in emergency dept, its great people come in with a drug or alcohol indiced injury and its not their fault, not at all, its mine of cause.
9) Adoration of so called 'celebrities'
Adoration of sportsmen is worse here, doesnt matter if you assault people or do drugs, worse thing to happen is they take you out of circulation for 12 months then put you back better than before.
10) Reality TV
Aussies love it
11) Obsession with money
They are still obsessed here, very materialistic too.
12) Buy now, pay never culture
Ditto here
13) The doom and gloom press reporting
OMG wait till you get here, you will miss the impartiallity of the BBC, its almost as bad as American TV
14) Too many managers in businesses
Australia is very beurocratic, its insane
15) Unwillingness to live within one's means
think i should stop drinking now

Re: What I don't like about the UK...
Nu Labour and their taxation and obsession of giving that tax away to scroungers are the main reasons I left

1) Depends what you're after. It won't drop below 40C this week in Melbourne for example ..... while north and west QLD are being flooded.
