What the hell is a bogan ?
 

I was watching this mental program last week and they started singing and going on about 'bogan pride', most of them had 'gunts' or 'camel toe' going off and some pretty bad barnets.

Is it the Aussie version of a chav or something ?

I wanted to ask a ramdom in Wollies but was worried I would offend someone, having only been here a few weeks I'm seriously needing to make friends and not get my heed panned in.

Any ideas ?

I've always maintained that a bogan is a less intense version of a chav. A UK chav is a more specialised bogan. Some bogans are infact harmless, some are even 'cashed up', whereas chavs are downright anti-social.

Er- does that make sense?

I like the idea of a harmless chavs though :rofl:

I don't know what the program was called but it was pretty funny, I've had the song stuck in my head all week.

A bogan of the cashed up variety can sit at home and dress completely normally and drink crap beer. A chav will always be a c u next Tuesday...

When I have heard of ferals here the people have been referring to the UK equivalent of travellers. The type with dreadlocks, don't wash and love eco protests if their smoke producing combi could make it out of Nimbin.

Would they shave the mullet and be bothered to remove the trashed Ute from the yard or would the mountain of empty stubbies out them off?

Some might say less refined or less sophisticated but that is too generous to Chavs. I would say that Bogans are rougher and less polished in style. More VB and dope for the Bogan whilst the Chav wants Es and Vodka and Redbull.
