What flavour of antivirus software?
I have been doing a bit of research regarding antivirus software but I can visit a dozen top ten review sites and get different results.
I have, for many years, used AVG but to cut a long story short, it's no longer working with my pc. What antivirus software are you currently using and what's it's best feature? |
Re: What flavour of antivirus software?

Re: What flavour of antivirus software?
Trend Internet Security Pro - less of a resource hog than Norton, and you can try for free before you fork out $$$$.

Re: What flavour of antivirus software?
Norton is a dreadful product for using up your processor resource. No-one with any pc knowledge would recommend using that. I personally use McAfee as I have never had any problems with it and it is very easy to use/congfigure.
Recently read an article in the Institute of Electronics and Technology magazine by their resident pc/software expert. He said he as never paids for virus protection or a firewall as the free products are just as good. He used AVAST I believe plus site advisor, spybot and a firewall (I can't remember the name of).. |

I use Avast - which is free for home use. I also have Spybot Search and Destroy (just because I've always had it and I can't bring myself to delete it :D) I have tried lots and lots of different things, but since I downloaded and installed Avast I haven't had any problems at all. |

Kaspersky. Works well and I have never had a problem since using it.

Re: What flavour of antivirus software?
Avast for anti-virus
and ZoneAlarm for my firewall. Easy to use, free, and updates itself daily, with an auto program update whenever they do one of those as well. |
Re: What flavour of antivirus software?
I service computers for a living and supply 'em too and without a doubt the best antivirus you can get is Avast particularly since it's a) free for home use and b) has a boot-time scanner c) has class-leading detection rates. Light on the memory, not in your face with the prompts and windows and (unlike that bag of shite Norton) will not hamper your PC's performance. Innoculate with Spy-Bot and switch to Firefox and you'll have no dramas.
That said I've been running OSX for nearly a year now - and I have no antivirus or antispyware software installed at all. |
Re: What flavour of antivirus software?
AVG no problems so far from this and i have been on some ...urmmmm well loads of different sites
Norton is a defo NO NO i had it on my old PC with Windows XP and had nothing but bother  Untill i started using somthing else and the problems stopped . But my dad still swears by it and Windows XP thats why he spends most of his time on his PC re-booting and installing all his drives :o Dougie :D |

Re: What flavour of antivirus software?
Avast. Used to have AVG, got a new machine and was recommended Avast and much prefer it. Norton should be banned imo.

Like everthing else , keep it updated & you should be OK . |
Re: What flavour of antivirus software?
Have had a few over the years but sticking with Kapersky now. It finds what others do not.

Re: What flavour of antivirus software?
I've been using VIPRE from Sunbelt Software for a year now and have some issues with it - but then I think you get issues with any product.
I still have a copy of ZoneAlarm Security Suite but it's uninstalled so as not to interfere. I had to uninstall the ZA firewall last week - it kept disappearing if I passed the mouse over the icon, leaving me unprotected. :frown: |

Re: What flavour of antivirus software?
Avira any good? Changed over from Avast just to see how it goes. Seems ok.
|
Re: What flavour of antivirus software?
Been using Avast for several years and never been hit. Mind you I am quite conservative in the places I visit.
Also run OSX "naked"! On that topic, if you run Windows in VM Fusion (just starting to ply with this) is the liklihood and consequences of getting hit the same? I notice the lastest Fusion comes with soem free Av software |

The advertising windows that pop up every day are a bit of a pain though. Does Avast have them ? |

Only been using it for about 4 months since all the crappy issues with AVG occurred. No issues so far.
