On a positive note, let's focus on what I love about Oz.

So, here goes...

Winter.

The fact that I can grow frangipani.

How Jacarandas look when they're blooming.

Top loading washing machines.

The laundry dries quickly.

The fact that when I am late for something nobody really cares.

Paddling in the sandy shallows of a beach (rarely) in the late afternoon.

There are a couple of people I love (still) here.

Glad I came.

i'm not a BIG fan of Australian winters... This one has been grey, wet, cold and depressing... Funny how quickly we forget our first 39 years of life isnt it?

Because I suspect they are annoyed that 'superior' people can 'fail' or be unhappy themselves in a place that has given them nothing but opportunity...who is having the last laugh?

There are many migrants who move to Australia who are an embarassment to their peers. Best forget them.

That's the difference between Brissybee's winter and yours. Perth = wet and cold. Brisbane = dry season and sunny days (usually).

Another reason why people have such conflicting views of Aus probably - it's a big country with very different weather, scenery etc.

My Australian daughter didn't even know what a "cask" of wine was until a year or two ago. In Dubai we used to have to do the booze run every few weeks to another emirate and every week a mate would buy two 5 litre goons for myself and his wife and two cartons of beer with his license just in case any of us run out before the next booze run. Anyway the terrible day came when I had run out of bottled wine and we were going to a BBQ at our compound and I asked my daughter and her mate to go and grab the "box" of wine out of my bedroom fridge. They asked how many bottles they should bring from the box and I had to explain that it wasn't a box of wine bottles but a box containing a silver bag filled with cheap crappy wine that I wouldn't be caught dead drinking in Australia but times were desperate. The girls thought it was the funniest thing ever and had great delight in telling every visitor we had from Aus that I had started drinking boxed wine. Probably doesn't hold the same stigma for those not born and bred here and some of the two litre casks are not too bad.

I like the way it keeps in the fridge.. And the way you dont REALLY know how much you've had so nil guilt factor and the way you can blow the silver pillow up and sleep on the beach in comfort after you've finished it....

I'm a BIG fan of it

Who said I was talking about you? :)

Just because someone shouts at you doesn't mean they are unhappy. Why wind up the zealots - what have they done to you? Surely they are happier than you when you wish you were back in the UK? Per'chance?

EXCELLENT ADVICE I am putting a full one under my seat in case of emergencies... So I can stop and have a drink/sleep when I'm over it... Love my pink moped... She's the best, and has just gotten better... YAY

:) He carries it empty -that's the point - hoping that he can get to a tap somewhere.

It was me old ute that was overheating...and he happened to pull up next to me - a fellow firefighter - a few k from home. I had just flogged it down from NSW when the rad started leaking!!
