Default What do you eat in Oz that you thought you never would have?

If you'd told me I would love having gravy with chips one day, I would never have believed it - but I do!

Absolutely nothing I can think off. In fact it is probably the opposite. Things I used to eat but find difficult to get would be more appropriate and one that springs to mind immediately is calves liver in black butter with sage mmmmmm. You can get it but have to pre-order and doesn't always come in.

Beef. In the UK I did not eat it at all. Here, I do indulge occasionally.

That's a very Northern English thing. Himself (a Southern Softie) thought it was wrong on many levels... right up until he was encouraged to try it

Not so much that I never thought I'd eat it, but we eat sweet potato and mangoes (not together ) loads here, I don't think I'd had sweet potato before.

Lamb. I'd never tried lamb until we moved here. Now those little tiny Frenched lamb cutlet thingies done on the barbeque are my favourite thing.

Yeah, I agree they were probably known as yams - still never had one

I only had pumpkin once in the Uk, wasn't overly impressed, but have it occasionally here.

Papaya are another fruit I hadn't had before but which are scrumilicious.

We eat a lot more fish here too, but that's more down to Himself, who is allergic to shellfish, realising that fish doesn't make him sick too. (I think he'd had both in a pie as a child and thought he was allergic to both)

I eat more squash and pumpkins than I ever did in the UK. Pumpkins were just things to hollow out for Hallowe'en and occasionally make into pumpkin pie.

Chips and gravy are not just a northern thing- when I went to uni in Wales the local chippie had chips and gravy, and also chips and curry sauce. Over here it is the strange inclusion of mash and gravy with a fast food meal, as well as chips that weirds me out.

Not that I eat fast food, but just seeing the ads is enough to make me feel queasy.

Chips with gravy or curry sauce is very common in many chippys, certainly in the midlands where I'm from.
