What do you do when... Beware rant
Your walking along a predesignated path or walkway and there are a few people coming the other way (2 or more). Being australian (yes they are because I can hear the accent...) they for some reason don't think they should share the path and basically take up the whole width and it looks like they have no intention of accommodating you or those you're with when you clearly have made allowances for them.
Do you move over onto the grass (even though you are already acting in a socially aware manner and not taking up the whole path) or stand your ground and make them move? This happens to me everyday. Young, old, it doesn't matter they have no concept that there are actually others they have to share the world with. Sometimes I just don't move (I'm not taking up the whole path, I only occupy one side) and they at the very last moment almost dive out of the way or we actually collide. Generally I've braced for the impact and it's them that has to spin off. And then look at you like why didn't you move... Other times I'm more accommodating and literally it's like they expect me to get off the path for them or climb the tree and give way. When I say your welcome they look at me like I've just called them fat and ugly  Bloody social retards :frown: Rant off |

Makes no difference. Just bloody rude! Same when driving cars! But to be fair, the Asian community was just as bad. Before we left, due to ill health, I had to use a mobility scooter in the shopping malls. Same thing happened when using it. They would barge in front of me, behave as if i was invisible, often making the whole trip a nightmare as i would be constantly slamming the breaks on. After a while i thought "sod it" I am being too polite here. If they want to be stupid enough to throw themselves in front of a moving vehicle so be it. I changed my tactics. I would just keep my line and keeping driving. Became quite a fun game after bashing a few legs  Their initial reaction was to look around in rage, then realise i was in a disabled vehicle and not know quite how to react. The facial expressions were very funny. Hopefully it might have taught them a bit of a lesson in future. If it didnt it still made me laugh :D |

You should feel lucky they were so polite. No i was not driving into people. You have obviously never needed to use a scooter. Aperson on 2 legs can manouevre themselves far quicker and easier than someone in a vehicle. Funny how i dont get this problem now i am back in UK?? Why is that? If they cant see me coming in that they shouldnt be allowed out! And believe me.. i can deal with Australian abuse in my own veritable way. :) |

As for the OP's problem, in the small little area of a major hospital where I work there is a particular English doctor. If I (or anyone else for that matter) am walking down the corridor, no matter how close to the wall, he will walk straight into me. Never moves 1/8" to get out of the way. More than once I've been pushed into the walls by him because he's far too important to move out of the way for us peons. |

Re: What do you do when... Beware rant
I use a walking stick and have been knocked to the floor fairly frequently in Australia and had people prepared to curse me for them bashing me when i have tried to move out of their way yet they are walking 3 abreast:ohmy:
It seems to be an Aussie thing as even in India people tried not to knock me over here it seems to be an I rule the pavement attitude  |

The only reason i am getting this grief is because i dared make a tongue in cheek anti Aussie statement. Not really related to the scooter at all..but hey ho..par for the course in here. So, you found a rude Englishman? Woopeee do!! I await the next 10 pages of posts about rude Brits who walk into people just to "disprove" the theory  zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :) |
