What % came on a reccie or holiday 1st?
 

Hi Im trying to work out the % of people that came on holiday before deciding to emigrate, the % of people that took a reccie trip first and the % of people who came without either. Please let me know what you did.

I hadnt seen Australia before we emigrated.. OH had about 18 years ago when he was a backpacker.. he wanted to move here since before we got together and got married.

We did however do a tour around Australia to check that we all wanted to stay before we settled here on the Sunshine Coast...

Sounds a bit back to front but it worked for us.. ie, we decided to take a year out to tour Australia but made sure we had a permanent visa in place so we could stay here should we like it... and we do like it and we have stayed! I prob love it more than my OH actually! haha!

We weren't going to have a recce but suffered a setback with the skills assessment that we knew would keep us in the UK for an extra 6-12 months. So at that point we decided to go for a recce and be sure.

not sure if i count as not got there yet but we have no plan to reccie. We are going over on a 457 visa for a couple years life and travel experience, we will get the PR visa that I have been offered after 3 months anyway in case we love it and want to stay, but we are not saying forever at this point, it's kind of a working holiday that we should have done in our teens not our thirty's ;)

1 year working holiday - emphasis on work, rather than holiday, in some ways, less in others. Not all holiday that's for sure.

And yes, it was a recce - actually. I was considering working here long before I seriously thought about it - maybe 4 years before. I was already an expat from the UK so it was going to be one more location.

Came on a 2 week holiday and then decided to emigrate with my family. Then came out for a two week activation/reccie trip. Then emigrated.

If you're going to up and move your family to the other side of the world you're taking one hell of a gamble without seeing it first.

We'd never been to this part of the world before we emigrated in '02.
Worked out fine though.

I would think that a reccie may actually be counter productive in many cases.

I was doing it unseen but my visa took longer than I hoped so took a months hol here last christmas as all my family where her but it wasn't really a reccie just a damn good holiday

There isn't a place where I can place 'our' vote.

OH had a visa to come here years ago as a GBP10 POM and 'gave it away' because of a downturn in employment in his field.

Years later we met and I told him that I thought that my children would come out to either NZ or Oz and asked if he would be willing to emigrate with me if my children came out here.

He had already been to Oz twice to visit his brother but I had never been.

When my daughter said that she was considering emigrating, we had to get our application in asap before we were too old.

So, he had already visited Australia before applying for our visa.

I would have emigrated ANYWHERE to be close to my daughter, and came without hesitation to a continent that I had never been to before.

Hats off to Emelems. She did what we wanted to do. Unfortunately, or not, OH was offered a job in Brisbane and we could not turn it down. We will have to wait until we are 'grey nomads' to have Emelems 'travel Australia' experience.
