Small bushfire broke out down our road this afternoon. Relatively small but close to properties so 2 waterbombing helicopters on the scene. Thankfully the wind (very strong, not helping the fire) has been blowing away from us and until I drove along the road had no idea what was going on.

About two minutes drive down our road but hidden from us by a couple of hills thankfully. However it's a 3km no through road and we're at the far end

Hope you are ok MP:unsure:

I was up in Ravenshoe a couple of weeks ago & they were having some fires up there & it really freaked me. Despite all my research, I didn't know there were bushfires in the wet tropics:ohmy::o

Considering how unseasonally dry it is in Cairns ATM, it comes as no surprise that the Tablelands is a tinderbox.

The main difference between the FNQ and big fires in NSW & Vic is the reduced number of big eucalypts. It's the eucalytpus oil that contributes significantly to the big fire fronts.
