we are going back to the uk
Well we have been here for 4 short months and now going back to the uk on 6th october.
We came over here on a 457 visa , hubby is a plasterer and his boss has been an arsehole from day one and has now decided he doesnt want to sponser us, we have 28 days to find another sponser but I have been trying to do this for the past 2 months without any luck. We sold our home to move to Perth for a better way of life with our two daughters but since my hubbys boss has made it impossible for us we have ne choice but to go back to the uk and try to start again. We have found it very difficult to get a new sponser because all the building trade want sub contractors and on a 457 visa we cant do it, if anyone is coming out here on a 457 visa please dont make the same mistake we have make sure you have a decent boss not an arsehole like we did.:( |

I really hope that something comes along and you dont have to give up your shot at a better life for you and your family. Good luck to you all. Nev. |
Re: we are going back to the uk
I'm really sorry to hear about your circumstances.
It is a bleak warning to those on 457's which is really sad. I hope something turns up for you soon. Have you thought about posting in the immigration forum? You may get some positive advice there. J x |

Or what about a skilled visa? I know you will still have to go home but this may be an option to get back into Oz (unless hubby is over 45) I know you probably thought of this already, so sorry if I am stating the obvious :o Good luck anyway |
Re: we are going back to the uk
That's really bad! So sorry.
Have you looked at other areas in Aus? |

Re: we are going back to the uk
That's horrible and one of the things that is rough about a 457 it's a shame you had to learn the hard way.
Have you asked about state sponsorship? I don't know if you are eligible although I know some tradies like roofers are |
Re: we are going back to the uk
Wise words!
It must be hard on this type of visa becuase you are at the mercy of others.

These sponsored visa types are not trust worthy at times, i'm so sorry you had to experience it. Good luck. |

I am sorry to hear about this. Make sure before you go that you write a letter to your case officer who handled your visa letting them know how you have been treated.
this happened to a family i know boss was a total git! expected the guy to work the next day after he arrived - he got in late evening -and it went down hill from there they had accomodation included with job - they got kicked out of that on sat afternoon at 2pm told to be gone by 6 :curse::curse:horrible family went to perth immi office - told them what happened - were really good and helpful :thumbsup: this happened a quite a few months ago now - mr m has a new job and family are happy - but for a while it was very scary for the family - and really showed to us other 457 the downside of the 457. i am lucky that my hubby works for a huge company in western au so they can't do this sort of thing to their employees that they bring over its a shame that employers take the piss out of their employees who have come from the otherside of the world - there is ment to be safe guards to stop this from happening - speak to an agent get advice from them and speak to perth imm office - they are helpful and will help you if they can- at least they were have it on record that this guy did this so he cant do this to some one else all the best love tiff |

Good advice. I would say to anyone reading this thread either here on a 457 or about to come, don't take the decision lightly there are huge downsides and don't come without knowing if you have a path to PR should the going get tough.
- but sometimes it does work - but do make sure that you know what you are letting yourself in for x please weigh up all the pros and cons before you jump in feet first |

but and this is the big but it does seem like a visa for some not so good employers to take the **** out of their employees and work them like work mules for little money some get away with paying just over the min wage to get them in to country - but make them work many hours over contract hrs and then can fire them at will - sending them packing - with no right of address for the sacked employee - just get out of the country in 28days ! it deffo is buyer beware on this visa - really really think about what could happen if it all went wrong - but it is a very hard lesson for the original poster i do hope there is good news for them - and that they do manage to get something sorted ireally do wish them well - and will keep my fingers crossed for them |

Re: we are going back to the uk
We camt to Oz on a 457 with a large Engineering Consultancy Company. Hubby offered fab job, lots of projects for him to manage etc. etc. Company paid for everything so we kind of thought whats not to try.
The company basically were economical with the truth and contrary to many of the posts, they haven't found him any work to do but are quite happy to continue to pay him a vast salary to sit around looking good. Great you might say but Hubby is bored out of his brain. He is now desperate to go back to the UK to do some real work. Problem with 457 is that he is stuck working for this company for 12 months as we would have to pay it all back if he were to leave now. It is also spoiling the OZ experience. What can you do to stop this happening - nothing - really as we didn't have any contacts here. Apparently, this is quite common and the recruitment agent said that several of her placements had gone back to the UK for this same reason. Amazingly, this company are still recruiting worldwide for people in the same area as hubby. He is gobsmacked. |
Re: we are going back to the uk
Hey better bored than homeless!
If they are paying fat checks to go to the beach can I ask what area of work your hubby is in? I might retrain quickly.... |

Alas, no beach - its not that good - sat in front of a computer in an office block desperately trying to find stuff to do! Been there done it -its soul destroying. Yes, he has had one to one meetings to try and improve the situation but no joy. To make matters worse, there is absolutely no office banter, its heads down and work (albeit imaginary work!) from 9 til 5. |

Immigration should be able to persuade him that he is responsible for that.... I take it there are no other onshore grantable (thus bridging visa grantable) visa's you can apply for? Can you get en ETA and spend those 3 months looking for a new sponsor? Or is the decision made? |

I'm PR having transferred from the same company in the UK. We've already had one round of redundancies and there are rumours today of a further cull next week. Half of me wants to get away as soon as I can, but the other (sensible) half of me tells me I need to stay there due to financial responsibilities, lack of support network and seemingly few opportunities in my line of work. Mind-numbing and soul destroying days and sleepless nights do not make for a happy household :( If I had the option of getting on a plane and returning to the relative peace of mind my previous life back in the UK offered me (and us), I'd be off like a shot. Sadly this is not an option and is not likely to be so for at least another 18 months, so it's a case of digging in, being prepared, and being strong. Best wishes to you and your OH. I'm sure it will all work out and you'll be back in leafy Cheshire before too long. |
