wanting to live in oz
thinking of coming to oz, where is the best place to go if you have a young family?
i have looked at Melbourne, but find it hard to gain information on what the suburbs are like. i live in a decent sized village but would feel lost in a huge city. i have 3 children who are under 10, so would want good schools. does any one know where i could find this information. Sydney doesn't appeal as it appears to expensive. I'm a nurse and my hubby is a mechanical engineer so what areas have plenty of jobs for these occupations. thanks Mandy |
Re: wanting to live in oz
Plenty of places which aren't that expensive around Sydney ... Wollongong perhaps, or maybe the Blue Mountains ... (Napean Hospital is a small commute for you).
Adelaide is nice and good for young families. :) |

Hi mandy,
Welcome to BE. I think where people decide to settle is very much a personal choice dependent on lots of different factors. I don't know much about Melbourne I'm afraid as I'm not heading that way myself. We are going to Brisbane. I may be able to help with any nursey questions though, being a nurse myself. Don't think you would have a problem getting a job wherever you decide to go. Best of luck with it. Its a big massive rollercoaster of a journey....Enjoy the ride! :D jackie x |

Hi
You dont want to be an enrolled nurse in Oz many posters say they are same as care assistants, as Oz not too clued up on the enrolled nurse ( registered nurse level 2 in this country) i am doing the conversion (1 year course ) have to travel to london from manchester each week to uni but hoping it will all be worth it in the end, course went very quickly, i cant believe it near the end, i cant understand how you cant get work in the NHS i work in cardiology and there are lots of EN's who are working in the health service, Anyway good luck with your OU degree :) |

Our relatives from Melbourne love it up here as well and their kids come and stay with us during their school hols. If your other half is thinking of joining the Oz army, one of the main bases, Bandiana, is about 20 mins drive from Albury. |

Do you miss the UK at all? Do you think it is cheaper living in Albury compared to the UK. One of my relatives live at Splitters Creek Rutherglen, I'm told that is on the outer rim of Albury. No doubt if i have more questions i will pick your brains , thanks for the info any way Mandy |
