The UK Trap Live for today

I have been thinking and one of my conspiracy theories is that the UK,

Now led by a complete prat Scottish Brown has an agenda to trap people here.

You get a mortgage, credit card, and before you know it , your trapped, you cant go anywhere.

I think its best of to work and play hard, and not own property with a hugmongous mortgage, live for today and going to Aus to work and play sounds a great idea to me.

I have come to this conclusion as I returned to UK, my mortgage is massive, all i do is work and I never go anywhere.

Anyone think the same?

Like my dear old father said to me once " I was born with nothing, and i still have all of it left, even at the grand old age of 70"

There is nothing wrong with buying/owning a house, but do not allow the affordability factor to determine how you live your life.

If you cannot afford it, do not buy it, borrow it from someone else, and enjoy life, rather than pay huge amounts of rent, sorry mortgage interest only payments to the bank?

Other thing is.

I will spend the next 25 years with no money, and my kids will miss out to pay a massive mortgage.

Once its paid they will be too old, and we wont need a 4 bed detached.

Buying houses is such a waste of time.

I think i'd rather buy and rent a small unit for retirement and rent a house that I want, but not necessarily afford!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or you can look at it this way,
Renting is not much cheaper than buying, and (IMO) is wasted money.
You can sell your home and down size when the kids leave home and hopefully have some money left over for you to enjoy.

well at least you will fit in with all the "she'll be right" and live in the now attitude in Oz. Personally I like to have a plan A, B and C!

Well I bought a house in the UK and rented it to a mate. He's buying my house for me, and I'm renting something I couldn't afford here.

Sounds good to me!

You can also turn your mortgage into a tax free savings account.

The problem with renting here is that you can be turfed out anytime the owners like once the lease is up. Some might want to sell, others might want to put their family in. Most leases dont go for longer than 12 months.

And if they want you out, all they have to do is up the rent by 100 percent when the next lease is due, you have no comeback. Then you have all the expense of removal costs and finding somewhere else to live, particularly hard if you have children still at school in the local area.

There are housing commission houses here, some are lovely, but the waiting list for them is indefinite.

Some can be lucky and find the average mum and dad investor in property who want a good tenant who pays the rent on time every week and looks after the house, you can be there as long as you like then.

I was talking to a young fella the other week who was telling me his brother dabbles in property investment here on the Coast. He gets the tenants in at a reasonable rent, then gradually sneaks it up as much as he thinks he can get away with, knowing that his tenants wont want to go through the trouble and expense of moving.

Errr no!!!

Actually, i had a very small morgage in UK. Beautiful home and wealthy business.
Came to OZ expecting pretty much the same, if not better, ended up with a massive morgage, smaller home and loads of red tape to contend with!!!
I'm still in OZ trying to succeed, working all hours god sends, thinking on the lines of 'maybe this wasn't such a good idea'

But, nothing is handed to you on a plate, we all have to work hard for a living, just the same as we did in UK. OZ isn't Utopia by no means, but it is my home for the time being.
