Stalin was pretty popular in the UK for a while as well.
"Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope." Hmmmmm.... don't remember much of any of that. 'The enemy of my enemy is my friend' or something like that |

I genuinely believe there will be wild celebration in parts of the UK...which no doubt people in other parts of the world will be quite perplexed by! |

I went to the UK in 1981 when I was 18. Even then I could see what a mess the country was in and needed sorting out. In 1979, the UK needed an enema - and Thatcher gave it to them! |

Indeed he was, but Communism and Stalin, were highly regarded before the war. Not such a smart view with hindsight. ;)

That depends on who you talk to.
My sister is due to visit here this weekend following spending several weeks in NZ....they will be in Australia for another few weeks travelling round.....before they went to NZ they had a seven week cruise round Asia before returning to the UK to fly to NZ. My BIL and SIL have just returned to the UK after a seven week tour of Australia.....they will be off to Canada soon. None of my family or friends have been affected. I sometimes wonder just who is suffereing:confused: Oddbins just went broke.... Dixons apparently is possibly next. No one is talking about this lack of disposable income on my London board. There is a 66 page thread on the TUC marches and an even bigger thread on companies going broke. |

Although I can see how nurses would become deskilled working in the Australian mental health system.....and, perhaps, unemployable in the UK where standards are higher |

Your be pleased to heard that the Consensus is on my UK board that Cameron is now phucked, over the hollow and transparent tactic of making workers bear the brunt yet again... Hence the big interest in the TUC marches and company closures. Companies on death watch are TM Lewin... DFS....HMV....Waterstones and unbelievably Primark. . |

The Royal Brisbane hospital is now talking about cuts in service......but I don't hear much on here about doom and gloom in Australia. As far as Cameron goes......this is not unexpected. People do not trust the Tories and this is simply adding to that mistrust. There are also plenty of shops going bust over here. |

. HMV, Waterstones...hardly surprising...compare with Borders / A&R here. Companies that will find it very hard to compete with good online competition. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12906023 Output from the UK services sector rebounded sharply in January, suggesting the economy made a stronger start to the year, figures show. Hotels and restaurants gave the biggest boost to the services sector, with output rising 4.4% on the previous month Discretionary areas doing well there. |
