Turnbull survives spill 48-35, but mortally wounded

Which is kind of why we are in this mess in the first place - people don't play attention, vote on the basis of ignorance, and before you know where you are you have a Trump.

They've lost the plot. All these conservative voters they've lost to Bernardi, Pauline etc...ultimately, despite all the noise these people make, they get them back on the 2PP basis. Now they stand to lose all the actual swing voters in the centre. Shorten must be loving this!
Swinging voters will look at this circus and think, let's give the other side a go
Then we get Shorten - who is deeply incompetent and beholden to the CFMEU
We're f**ked
Time for me to start putting feelers out about the HS2 project in the UK or LNG plants in Texas

Just as well the rest of us have ignorance and prejudice to work with.

Looks like Turnbull is going to try to knife Dutton on the way out, with him calling a party room for midday tomorrow after the solicitor general gets back with a judgement on if Dutton is eligible to be there as an MP at all, in the morning.
Who knew he had so much of a spine.

Would the Liberals really vote in someone that did this?
Talk about an unelectable option. Why on earth are they committing Hari Kari?

As it is, I think Turnbull might have played a blinder here. I said he needed to grow a backbone and refer Dutton, and it looks like he will do so in a way, and a set of circumstances, that will cut the legs from under the far right wingers. If they don't step back, they could be in an election inside weeks - one they will lose badly.
It wouldn't save Turnbull forever, but by the time this comes round again they should have been told in no uncertain terms that Dutton = Death - which will get Turnbull to the election next year.

Bishop appears to be the people's favourite. Probably best outcome for WA as well. Too leftist for the chest thumping right wing of the party apparently, who prefer to take the party ever more Right.
Not a good look for politics in general. Just turn more off the main centralist parties into fringe parties. No one can give a reason for the turmoil outside , outside of wrecking revenge and self interest.

Yep Dutton is a puppet, too stupid to realise he's being played by Abbott & his faithful press hound Credlin, some kind of sick revenge for Turnbull ousting him as leader. They don't care who ends up as leader as long as it's not Turnbull. Abbott is happy to bring down the govt. sick puppy. As a party they were only just behind Labour now they are as unelectable as Bungalow Bill was after knifing Rudd. All Shorten has to do is sit and watch and within 12 months the CFMEU will be running the country. Shorten the man that knifed Gillard & Rudd in the back in his bid for power will make it via a power mad ex-cop, it's the stuff of farfetched script writers. It makes compulsory voting a joke. The only good news is that this might just raise Julie Bishop up to leader of the Libs............phworrrrrrr
Abbott is a wrecker in this case but he also has the ability to really take the fight to the socialists. Whoever gets the gig has to bring him into the cabinet as an attack dog and get stuck into Shorten and his CFMEU masters on a daily basis - really get under their skin. He'll get cut through and may give the LNP a glimmer. Shorten/CFMEU will wreck the economy and the Nauru/Manus economic migrants will be on the next plane to Australia

The strange thing is the ALP are pushing for Dutton to be excluded from parliament over his wife's child care centers.
That's a strange ploy to take. You would think the ALP would want Dutton as the front man given how unpopular he is with the people.
