TSUNAMI WARNING: Powerful quake hits off New Zealand
A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the southwest coast of New Zealand on Wednesday, the US Geological Survey said, and a tsunami warning has been issued.
The quake struck at 8.22pm (1922 AEST).

Tsunami has been observed at Spring Bay in TAS at 10:05pm and at Port Kembla in NSW at 10:06pm.

Word reaches us that the tsunami in question reached heights of 8 inches. 
I went down to the beach to check it out (like you do) and watched a teenage girl in pajamas help her crippled dad (I promise you I'm not making this up) up the steps to the viewing platform to better witness the oncoming tidal wave.
