Top spots between Brisbane and Sydney
We are driving from Brisbane to Sydney just after Christmas and planning to stop off somewhere for a night on the way there and then on the way back.
Looking for recommendations! If you had to pick 2 places along the coast on this stretch where would you choose and why? Thanks |
Re: Top spots between Brisbane and Sydney
I love that coast. Its dependent on what you want. For me if I had to choose 2 it would be Nambucca Heads and Nelsons Bay - but that is because I have done it so many times.
I am sure Nambucca would be too quiet for some but it has lovely places and a really nice dog friendly camp site. If I had never done it before I would probably choose Byron Bay (because its famous, its beautiful and people talk about it) as long as it wasnt schoolies (did it once and it was horrific) and Nelsons Bay ( lovely dolphins, pretty area and a decent drive down leaving a manageable drive on the final day) Viv |

While Byron is good it is less than 2 hours from Brisbane.
When we did the round trip drive to SYD we went inland on the way down and stayed at Tamworth overnight. On the way back we did the coastal route and stayed at Coff's Harbour. Both are roughly half way. |

Coffs harbour is nice, but Byron is lovely! Very worth a stop off on the way!

Agreed that Byron is great, but if doing a Brisbane to Sydney Road trip then you would only be 2 hours out of Brisbane before you hit Byron. Byron is more of a day trip from Brisbane than a stop over on the way to Sydney
If you stopped at Byron you would only have to drive 2 hours the next day - so better to chose somewhere 'further away' to break up the driving a bit. Still if that's not an issue for OP, I would still recommend Byron. And to answer the question why: because it's 'different', it's kinda cool. The Balcony does great food! (I'd go back there jsut for that... but I am a foodie.. :) I love the beach. Theres a great spa there if you're into that. I love the little alternative shops too. |

Coff's Harbour. We stayed at Valla Beach for a week once and it was brilliant.
