Too hot
 

:( Our aircon has broken leaving us in a very hot house with 40 degrees due today and 43 ish tomorrow :ohmy:. We have lots of fans on and our youngest is playing in the bath at the moment to keep cool. This is an old house and to be honest we were surprised that the unit had held up for this long but the repair people can't get here until Monday as they are so busy (I wonder why :p).
Time to break out the alcosluchies that we have left in the freezer and move into the cave cellar ;). Hope that you are all enjoying a cool day :thumbup:

Our town here has the nickname 'Death Valley' :ohmy: and it would appear that it is well earnt in the summer :D.

Portable refrigerated aircons cost about 600 bucks, probably too late for you at this stage, they only cool a small area, but possibly enough so that you could all sleep comfortably, or not dread the looming night. Probably be able to sell it once you were set up. They may have them cheap in Shep or Bendigo (ooh I forgot Albury maybe a better option for you) :)

On a side note last time I was hot like this, without aircon, was on a my last trip back to the UK, when I took a week out in Spain. Very hot nights in Spain, I couldnt beleive that the Villa I rented didn't have aircon. Then I realised, as a holiday renter most UK people wouldn't mind that heat, in fact they would probably think, they are paying to feel this heat..... Wouldn't work on us Aussies that mentality eh ;)

Ummm paying for the heat nope can't quite get my brain aroud that one :huh:.
Hubby was talking about getting a protable unit but I think that it would be better just to suck it up and get through the next few days as we seem to be wasting so much money at the moment on things that will be replaced when we finally get around to renovating. We are all off to the swimming hole tonight when hubby gets back from work as I worry about being on my own there with the kids incase there are any problems.
In the meantime our ceiling fans are moving the hot air around nicely :p and we are doing absolutely nothing. I may go out with the kids tomorrow as the aircon in the car works OK and we can jump from one airconditioned shop to another :thumbup:.

I'm working from home and it is getting hotter- our brick house takes a while to heat up then stays really hot for ages.

What is the point of having a husband who is an aircon plumber when he is out at work all day installing them in other people's houses. (Unsurprisingly his company is inundated with work)

I am so glad that I don't have to work, although I do have a lot of school work to catch up on but that can wait for cooler weather. Our house is a very old weather board and I am guessing that the insulation is non existent. We will be improving that when the reno starts but in the meantime I am sitting here melting nicely.
Apparently there might be thunderstorms here tomorrow which will add the chance of fire to the mix.

Just in case

I'm sure your aware of the old way of cooling before refrigerated portable aircons came along. 2 or 3 fans, big bowls in front at fan level and bags of ice, works a treat. You need to place the fans in front of slightly open windows though, otherwise the house turns humid.

Maybe some others reading that don't know about this very cheap method.


I've got all my blinds closed, house sectioned off, and the aircon on, cooling the kitchen, the lounge and my bedroom... Easy for me today as the wife and kids are on holiday in Lakes Entrance, so doors aren't being opened all over the place. Just as well, I turn into a cooling nazi on days like today, so probably saved a lot of tension lol. It's the night time thats the annoying part of this heat in my opinion.

Thanks will def try that tonight as I am really not worth living with if I don't get any sleep :o.
We have all of the doors and blinds closed and as many fans as I can find on and that seems to have held it at this temp rathen than it getting worse. I supose that I should turn the computer off as it is belting out the heat (nah it can't be that bad).

We had heard about wet blankets up over open doors but that all smacks of effort at the moment.

I'm sat here with just the fan on and a wet towel hung over the door :D I'm still boiling though! 42 here for us today and no humidity at all (not even 1% :blink:)

Apparently we get the Adelaide weather a couple of days after you get it and that is how the locals forcast our weather so I will look forward to more heat to come :ohmy:. I can't face my usual bucket loads of tea so everyone will have to deal with me hot , tired and suffering from caffine withdrawal (not a pretty thought :rofl:).

Well if it makes you feel any better it's going to be down to 28 degrees tomorrow :D then it'll stay between 26 and 30 until Tuesday (when it's back to 38 :ohmy:)

I shall have to watch the weather and check the theory but I am happy to live in hope for 28 degrees. We had the same temps as Alice Springs here between Christmas and New Year :ohmy:. THAT was a shock to the system.

It may not seem it at the time, but a cup of Tea will do more to refresh you than alcohol will. I can't drink alcohol on a hot day as it makes my core temperature boil.
