So its agreed then -

Nuclear power now. Investment in renewables especially solar since its only gonna get warmer and sunnier anyhow

Job done. Someone phone Kev and tell him not to go to Copenhagen. He'll only be adding 1000kg of CO2 per person on the flight. Hardly seems worth it.

Cannot think of a better, choice, anti abortion, set in his ways right of right, just the one to appeal to the masses.

Thought they might have had a chance with Malcolm but not with Abbot people have memories and he was not appealing as Minister. Still makes it easy for me to choose who to vote for now.

Even if the only result of this will be ETS not passing through the senate it will be a good result.

Have not been here long enough to judge Abbot as a potential leader and be able to say how would it influence next elections but somehow I think that Liberals taking an actual stand on this issue might work out better than expected.

And what exactly are they doing ?

Nothing, but blocking whatever it is.
  • K Rudd wanted a large something.
  • M Turnbull intended to get a smaller something.
  • J Hockey wanted a free democratic vote by all Liberals on the matter.
  • T Abbott intends to make sure nothing is done.

Abbott may well be right, but I think Hockey has the more democratic way.

What really shocks me is that Abbo only won by 1 vote. That explains why Turnbull thought he had the numbers.

Apparently someone spoilt their ballot paper.

The liberals have completely imploded and polling is viewing them as a bunch of luddites. IMO labour will push this to a double dissolution election where the coalition will be screwed for another term.

Abbott is on the right of the party and even John Howard thought he was unelectable.

Joe Hockey was probably the libs best chance and they have to cross fingers he is not too tarred by this as Abbott is unelectable. Hockey's main baggage is that "workchoices" was his baby in the last government. IMO that lost the coalition the last election.

Let's not forget that the Coalition's lack of willingness to even consider a green alternative policy also played a major part. Turnbull pleaded with Howard in the months leading up to the election and said that unless he changed his views they would be out.

The libs had lost the last election - no matter what they did/said.

The Australian people wanted change for change's sake.

bollocks. In that case they would have gotten rid of them when Latham was leader. As much as people hate the smugness of Rudd he was deemed to have policies that stood up to more modern day scrutiny. Work Choices, Iraq, Afghanistan and Climate Change were all modern day issues that were dealt with in a semi-dictatorial way. The majority of people didn't like it, so they went with the party that had alternatives.

Latham was as electable as John Prescott and had similiar jousting capabilities. He broke a cabbies arm once. By that I mean unelectable.

Iraq and green issues did not seem to strike as much as an issue as "workchoices". Just my observations. I guess we need an opinion poll from the time to prove them.

It was KRudd's main message which actually means nothing.

A number of people noted a turning point when John Howard said "Australian's have never had it so good" when interest rates were peaking.
