I can't even start to think about Toby's experience. And the company's response is absoltuely shocking!!!!
I am copying PP's signature as well and will NOT be using this company when we eventually go back to the Uk and take our dog with us.
Paraken, I am so, so sorry about this. We are all thinking about you.

God I can't believe what they told you! scary stories? Are they thick or something? Sweet Jesus in a bikini, the evidence is there for all to read.
And isnt it funny that they said they have never heard of such a thing yet the company who dealt with Toby said 'These things happen'.
That to me suggests that this has happened before.
Jools, it might be worth copying the story from here and emailing it to them with the companys admission of 'these things happen'.
That is why I have my signature - hopefully if it stops one person using that company then it will be worth it. Feel free to copy it and have it in your own guys.

Could we put together a letter signed from "BE forum members" & e-mail/post it to all the UK pet export companies asking that they request Australian air Express reviews the procedures used when handling our very precious 'consignments' when they reach the other side-would the moderators/owner of BE be willing to put something on headed paper if they have it perhaps??

This is very very difficult for me to write, i've just buried my boy (Toby) in our garden and i've never cried so much, i'm still shaking.
He was found today just north of the control tower at Brisbane airport lying in the long grass. He was still breathing but unconscious, the guy who works at the tower took him straight to a vet but he died before arriving. Two paralysis tics were found in Toby's ear (He was booked in to see a vet re all his inoculations but he never got a chance) causing his death.
We went straight to the vet and found him lying on a fleece looking so helpless Oh god i can't describe how emotional i felt, just started crying my eye's out. I know in the big scheme of things a dog's death doesn't mean that much but he mean't the world to us and he was MY boy.
Our three girls have just got home from school and i've had to tell them what happened, they are completely devastated.
Thankyou all for your help and kind words it really mean't so much to us.
If anyone knows of a solicitor who could relate to how we feel and hopefully make sure this NEVER happens to anyone else's animal, please contact us.
It would make us feel so much better knowing that what these people (Australian airExpress) have done will make them sit up and rethink their policies.

I will at least be informing a vet I worked for who does alot of RSPCA cruelty work and export paperwork for kennel club show dogs and their movement in/out of the UK.
At least if Tobys owner did that bit then it cant be classed as 'scary stories'.
What happened to Toby will not go unnoticed, any pet export threads on BE then we can at least warn the owners with the link to this thread.
I shall telephone my friend later today and see what we can stir up. Years ago I used to write for a Veterinary Journal - 'VN Times' - they may be interested in an article about this, I shall find that out as well.

I think it might carry more weight if Toby's owner could perhaps write a statement as to what happened and email it to the pet companies and even the dog magazines - or I could do that bit for her.

Also speak to the chairman of the CCCQ Canine Control Council Queensland.
Also get on www.dogzonline.com.au and post your story, many 1000's of dogs are moved frequently interstate by these companies, so as Burt Reynolds said...

When I get my lunchbreak, I shall stay and eat at my desk and I will check out that forum.
I might do an article for my local paper as well. Local TV stations are a good thing because from local publicity, international can surely follow - in the pet world at least.
Basically if this company can't assure the safety and well being of the animals that they transport then they should stick to inanimate objects.

I was thinking about Toby and his owner last night and Mr PP was horrified at what that poor dog must have gone through.

You are right it would be good for Toby's family to write a personal statement that could be circulated to industry professionals maybe with pics of them with Toby.

Exactly-why don't these companies have a number of properly trained specialists to deal with pets instead of entrusting them to the care of the luggage handlers-the same ones we see throwing our cases thru the air

pp, by being told that they should not go down the law route i assume that they (the two companies)work as a sort of partnership.
being told not to go to court surely means that they know they have done wrong and are responsible. Am i wrong or are they trying to prevent a situation where they will be fined and embarrassed? If this is the case then i THINK that the OP was not the first to have this happen to them, and if not and other people who were in a similar situation may come forward and make things worse for them.

I truly believe that Toby's owner should seek legal advice now and involve as much press attention as possible.
But time is running out and it needs to be kept in the spotlight.

In the grand scheme of things he was your boy as millions of us dog owners can varify. They are always so loving and make your day so much better when you get home.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss in such terrible circumstances and i hope that some justice can be done.
