Time to arm UK patrol cops

Re: Time to arm UK patrol cops
Wouldn't it make more sense to compare countries that have similar gun laws/restrictions to the UK?
I don't believe UK police should all be armed. And the UK is not utopia so guns will never disappear from the streets. What does appear to work, as has happened in Nottingham, which had a terrible problem with gun related crime a few years ago, is increasing the visibility of police who were licensed to carry guns and combining that with specific task forces designed to target the cause of the crime, in this case, rival gangs.
Blimey, that was a long sentence
Anyway, what about the price of mushrooms?

A lot of police officers are armed, so would arming more mean that crims would arm themselves more? I don't have the answer, but yesterday's brutal killing of two young women was disgusting and just what will their poor families be going through.

Police killings of civilians increase massively once police are armed. The history of the presently armed police units in the UK is chequered enough. Just look at what happens in NSW when police officers are routinely armed.

As usual, it's pure shite coming out of bizzaroland (aka Chris955 world). Have a look at some low crime countries like Sweden, Canada, Denmark, Switzerland where police are armed. The UK and a few other countries are the tiny exception to the rule that most police, worldwide are armed.
One or both of those poor women might still be alive to day if they had been armed, but you don't care about that because it doesn't fit into your quaint little viewpoint of the UK.

Based on what research and where? or are you just passing off your own opinion as fact?

Whilst there *may* be an argument to arm British beat police (not one I'd be inclined to side with mind you) - the original story is not the place to begin that argument.
The full story is not yet known, and maybe wont ever be, depending on how reliable we may think the confession is when it's released. It isn't fully known what happened but the fact that a grenade was used indicates to me that it was very likely that they were ambushed and it was a blitz attack (though it seems one of the women did draw her taser) and there could have been greater risk to the public if they had been armed.
This could easily be a scenario where it wouldn't have mattered if they had been armed and an argument certainly can't be made for it based on the limited information available.

An interesting article here on why UK police aren't armed.

2 policewomen needlessly executed by a total waste of DNA. If they had been armed (and trained), they might have had a chance at dropping this ******.
Having unarmed patrol cops is not working and is a quaint idea from a time long past and has not made the UK a safer place. Some of the most liberal, nanny state, low crime Scandinavian countries have armed police.
Arm them, train them, let them defend themselves and the community because as it stands now the system is a joke.
