Absolutely. All it has achieved in countries where Police have guns is that more criminals carry guns. It obviously hasnt worked in America. I would hate to see cops in this country armed, it is part of what makes them more approachable. The murder rate in the UK is dropping, it isnt as if the figures point to there being a greater need for armed Police, just the opposite. When someone comes from a violent country, be it the USA or SA, they automatically see the solution as more guns. I hope the day never comes. I dont even see it is necessary in Australia.
Last year 67 cops in the US were killed by gunfire. 5 were killed by accidental gunfire (eg the police shot themselves).
Given the very low level of deaths by gunfire in the UK, I'd suggest you are better off getting guns out of society entirely. And that's before you get to the people murdered by police gunfire over the same period, and the reality that you can't trust a cop with any kind of weapon.
Time to get rid of more guns, both in the wider society, and in police hands.

One or both of those poor women might still be alive to day if they had been armed, but you don't care about that because it doesn't fit into your quaint little viewpoint of the UK.
