I think I may look at carrying something around - just in case. I can tell if I haven't taken my medication for just one day so I dread to think what I'd be like if it were longer. Even if they did notice my scar.......and assumed I needed thyroxine......the wrong dose would also send me loopy!! :)

I don't really see that it affects any treatment I may need in an emergency. Not really something I have thought about.

No I dont think it would effect any other treatment - but if you dont take thyroxine - it could bloody kill ya!!

The SOS Talisman bracelets / necklaces are good for this sort of situation. Especially diabetics or major allergy people. It is one of things we are told to look for on an unconcious patient.

Thanks Sel - I'll look into getting one I think. Better to be safe than sorry :)

I'm an ICU nurse - we often get unconscious people admitted. We get their medical history from their NOK or their doctor. If all else failed, we'd do full bloods and notice they needed thyroxine - TFTs are not uncommon.

Not taking thyroid replacement is not immediately life-threatening, so it doesn't really warrant a medic alert like insulin-dependent diabetes, which IS immediately life-threatening.

Maybe not .... but if it makes the person with the problem feel at ease then why not ??? All info helps :)
