up to a point yes. i thought i'd struck golf in Dan Murhpys when he had two bottles of red wine for $5. TWO! it had a really odd name, like "The Honest Taste" which we chuckled at as we bought some.
Then we drank it, and in the distance we could almost hear Daniel Murphy chuckling at us, because he now had our $5 and we were drinking his revolting bright red arse juice.

But if you find an OK one ... Sacred Hill Shiraz Cabernet 2010 is my current $4 drop. It looks more sophisticated than Chateux Cardboard too.

also, tennents isn't actually very nice, if i recall correctly!
tennents superstrength was what we used to buy cheap in uni, and mix it with white magic cider for a potent snakebite. this was all before we left the house so we could save money on drinks. a lot of times we never made it past the front door!
i wonder if on some aussie expat forum elsewhere there is an equally as enthusiastic thread about tooheys being made available in the UK

Yep - I remember many a misguided decoding session at Uni where we were fueled by what we came to call 'TC' (Tennents C**nted - we decided 'super' as a word didn't have the necessary gravitas).
of course eventually we discovered that for even less money we could make equally repugnant and potent home brew and Tennants lost some serious customers... We still wrote a few songs dedicated to the much malignant cans of lager though!!

After reading this i popped into first choice for a couple of cans of tennents for my beloved OH, I am now the best wife in the world
However, i see they remain in the fridge, he says hes frightened it just doesnt taste the same

1st Choice also sell Irn Bru Wkd (alcopops) - much to my joy! Those things taste like Garvies Irn Bru - I got myself some for Hogmanay this year, twas great
