Telling parents this weekend
 

Hello all

we are taking the plunge this weekend and going to tell our parents. Our state sponsership has been processed and just waiting for the visa to arrive on the doorstop need to seel our house then thats it off we go yipeeeee.

We remember telling our folks like it was yesterday. It was horrible, my mum started crying. It's not easy, and selfishly, you will feel as sense of relief once it's out in the open. The guilt you will take with you, but that eases. Much advice on here has been to remain honest with family and keep them upto date with all that your doing.

Ha, When we told my folks back in early 2006 my Mum burst into tears then we got given a guilt trip for the next few months. Even when we got to Australia we got it down the phone for the 1st couple of months as well.

It`s all well and good now that we`re back in the UK but little do they know I`ve got a 175 in waiting to be processed :eek:

Don't tell anyone. Just leave.

I had predicable results when I told my parents first time around (2001), mum did the tears thing, dad has the same view as me - your life up to you how you live it. They were stoked when we went back in 2002.

Then had to tell them again in 2007, had a 3 hour drive to their place which I think made it feel worst as I spent the entire trip thinking how I was going to tell them that we were coming back here again - straight away or just before I planned to head back north (cowardly I know). Told then straight away - didnt see my mum for the rest of my visit ! It was only a couple of weeks until we left the UK (thankfully).

I guess different people take it different ways - hope it all goes well.

We won't be doing the goodbyes thing this time, bloody awful that was.
Everyone who needs to know knows whats happening, a few friends we have that we haven't told yet and the schools etc don't know.

Mr JenJen's parents don't care, his brothers got a little boy so we've been replaced already - hardly see them and they won't come out to Australia.
My dad will visit yearly for as long as he can apparently, my mum and her husband will visit yearly too apparently.

I'm just wondering what hotel to poin them towards - it's tough going back to living with your parents when you're out of the habit of it!
We know a couple of friends will come out and stay in a year or two, cause they're hoping to move to the other side of Oz.
