Have you tried:

right click on desktop
-properties
-desktop
-customise desktop
-web
is the "lock desktop items" checked?

We spoke to microsoft they couldn't help but said if I wanted to speak to one of their top techies it would cost me $50.

But as I've done the full factory restore and it still doesn't work and edited the registry .

sussed it.



Someone suggested that it may be a mouse problem but I kept unplugging the mouse and trying the touchpad but no change, so it just occured to me to reboot with the mouse unplugged and done.

Is it a wired or wireless mouse. When I plug my little USB phone into my laptop, the wireless mouse stops working!
