Guildford Grammar is building a kick-ass new library for the same money as some state schools on the east coast paid for a school 'hall' the size of a cupboard that can only seat 30 people. Why? They are managing the project themselves and not letting a labor state government that is controlled by socialists and unions manage it.

We could leave the nation thick but then there would be no one to subsidise your Childs private education and your private health.

A slow orderly cut of private subsidies returned to benefit the nation would incease wealth for all. I would also see more lobbying for public education from those who previously went private.

Don't all Australians deserve a good start through education.

What next privatise the police so those who pay more get extra protection?

If all private students went to State schools, it would not increase wealth for anyone except the wealthy who would no longer pay fees.

It would actually cost the taxpayer more, to cover the cost of educating those extra students.

Using the official 2006-07 education costing figures:
Government Cost per pupil
$11,874 State Schools
$ 6,442 Non Government Schools
$ 5,810 Independent Schools

and the totals of school students in Australia: 3,098,375 from NSCC table 40a

Therefore 2006-07 costs for 2009 enrolment numbers:
870,319 x $6,126 = $5,331,574,194
2,228,056 x $11,874 = $26,455,936,944

Total cost under current system $31,787,511,138

Total if all students went to State schools
3,098,375 x $11,874 = $36,790,104,750

Current saving of taxpayers money $5,002,593,612 at 2006-07 rates.

$5 Billion dollars

And some people think that the taxpayer should cough up that extra, so that private schools can be done away with.

How about.. we increase tax rates by an extra 5% so that EVERYONE gets a better education, if the State governments can spend the money wisely on education resources ?

Why are we paying that much to subsidize private?

We would see far more resourcing go to public if private were not subsidized.

The private lobbyists would then divert to the inexcusable public resourcing. Private does not need the extra public funding.

Universal education is a necessity for a wealthy nation to maintain it's status.

It is fine if you are private. Funding and maladministration are affecting public. NSW still has unflued gas heaters which are banned anywhere else in the state. AC is a pipe dream.

A similar argument applies when it comes to private health care. All the socialist/communist types argue that all the subsidies should be withdrawn. But they are so blinkered that they can't see the load taken off the state system and the extra workload that would swamp it if private health care was curtailed.

I think most can - obviously way more load on the public system and way more money too.

But the real argument is often around degrees. Have we moved too much money one way or the other, not whether we should give it all to private or all to public. The Howard govt pushed a lot more money and people into private health. Fair question about whether it went too far and was based more around his personal ideology than sound practice. Worth discussing. Same argument for schools really - is the line drawn in the correct place.

I pay loads of tax (I pay more in tax than the average person earns in a year) - money that is going to subsidise people who are not. To a certain degree I have no problem with this but let me get at least something out of the system.

Well, the answer to that is to vote the socialist pricks out at the next election. NSW government is a dysfunctional basket case controlled hard-left losers.

Get rid of them.

Lots of these top private schools take up acres and acres of prime land in the inner cities, with all their rugby fields and so on. Why should just a privilleged few have access to all that land ? l think the schools should be bulldozed and the land turned into public parks and affordable housing, thats my communist rant for the day.
