It's a way of justifying, what in my mind is the needless state governments.... Mind you do we need to replace the state governments with super councils like the UK system or not ? could be a poison chalice. There is definitely one tier of government to many here IMO. BTW, I'm going to go out of my way to look at these UK motor homes next trip back.... you never know, especially now I've half an idea whats important on them for Aus conditions. Pity about your arrival timing from my POV MC  |
Re: Taking a Motorhome to Oz
One thing you just cannot do in Aus is set off and hope for the best. You have to be thoroughly prepared. It is a big country and you might be stranded miles from anywhere in killing conditions and out of phone range.

It could be prudent to take drinking water and a Jerry can of fuel, and a fully charged mobile phone, but thats about it. Most people with Motor homes would already have that. I guess you do need to know exactly where the bitumen stops though.... That aspect could catch newcomers to the country out. Off road or rather on the dirt roads, it's a totally different kettle, there you do need to plan and have a very good idea of what your doing. Most people with Motor homes don't venture on to the dirt roads for any lengthy period of time, other than through national parks. |

Just one of the bazar rules you'll be faced with in trying to get it to comply with Australian rules that are their solely to protect the inflated prices of local manufacturers from imports. Have read that regarding cars, caravans, ovens! you name it. Pity, USA caravans are a third of the price for top of the line everything, compared to 1990 fit out here. |

You know what, my husband whinges more than me too, a hell of a lot more actually. I said to him the other day, ' You do realise that you are turning into a grumpy, moaning old git don't you?' He laughed but it's bloody true. He better book his ideas up, otherwise he's down the road!

I reckon that would be another reason not to bring a motorhome from the UK. Almost all caravans / campervans here only sleep 2, normally with a combined age of over 140.
