Default In Sydney for one night - suggestions

I'm travelling to the UK later this month and will be flying with Virgin from Sydney. I'm going up the night before so have a night on my own in the City. Any suggestions for good bars & restaurants in/around the CBD ?

Thanks awfully. I can offer karma by return if it helps ? I realise there are a few 'karma whores' out there.

It kind of depends on your definition of 'good'...... but if you go to The Rocks and have a wander you are sure to find something to your taste.

My personal favourite is 'The Orient' - can't remember the street, but it is a cream-coloured pub/restaurant on a corner at the town end of the area.

However..... if this stop-over in Sydney is an infrequent thing, then I strongly suggest that the best thing you could do with your evening/night is go on the Bridge Climb. It is pricey, but by God it is fabulous!

You probably need to book in advance - check out http://www.bridgeclimb.com.au/

You can always hit the pub afterwards (quite possibly with some company from your Climb)........

I would vote for a walk round the rocks too, take a ferry somewhere and back to say you have been on the harbour - try manly, much cheaper than a captain cook trip. Irish Pub the mercantile is great for a craic some nights.

You can also take a rive taxi round to Darling Harbour which should be about $10 but another way to see the bridge from right underneath it. You can als get the river taxis from the far side of the Opera House so you get to go past both.

Darling harbour has restaurants and bar all easy walking distance apart and then you can take a walk to the Casino if you like.

For another view of the city try the Sydney Tower.

If you want club recommendation I would have to ask the 18 year old son but you will have a wide choice between the Rocks and Darling Harbour.

If the night you are in is a Thursday look on the meet ups section the Sydney CBD crew meet up and have a regular pub inspection night by all accounts.

have fun

What night of the week?

If you're going to be here on a Thursday, then feel free to come along to one of our Thursday Night drinks evenings in the CBD.

I would suggest a drink at the top of Australia Square as it revolves so you get a full 360 degree view (especially beautiful at sunset) then get a ferry between Darling Harbour and circular quay as you go under the bridge & get to see the opera house from the water and a wonderful view with both of them at the same time.

Then as it will be a Thursday join the guys from here for a drink or 2.
