Mad Cow disease does spring to mind though.

and there's always foot and mouth. Avian flu caused a bit of a panic, though.

Some of the regulations here let consumers down. I want to know if there's any GM ingredients in a product, or where the major ingredients come from, not just "mix of local and imported product". If it contains apple juice from China, or wherever, I want to know so that I can decide for myself whether to buy or not.

The taste of milk often varies from one area to another. Different seasons, climate, soil, grass, breeds of cows, processing methods, etc.

Huh? All the milk that is marketed as 'lite' is semi-skimmed (2% fat)...e.g. the supermarket own brand lite milk.

Seriously?? Has that always been the case? When we first got here I nearly cried cos I couldnt find it, it always said SKIMMED on it.....Now I dont ever do the shopping (I've been banned ) and just take it for granted that its still the same (I only have it on cereal) We always have LL by the end of the week cos we run out of "proper"stuff by then, and thats definately skimmed....

I've never noticed the word 'skimmed' being used here much?

It's more often low-fat (or lite) or no-fat.

And LL milk also does come in low-fat (semi-skimmed) - the 98% fat free one.

It's like saying "Country of origin witheld but it can be anywhere that you want it to be"
