Supermarket Pet Hates...

Love the signature pic. Lettuces are often hideously expensive regardless of natural disasters. What gets me is the price fixing! Why not sell your lettuce for $2 as a loss leader and then cash in on the weighty mark up on the other fruit and veg on your stall. It's almost as though economics and the manipulation of price on supply and demand doesn't exist here.

We have such exciting lives that when we visit a city a trip to the supermarket normally takes place to remind us just how much we get fleeced living in regional areas. Doesn't make any sense to me - especially as in Cairns, we live close to the Tablelands.

Almost everything in regional areas seems to be higher, always has been. Property seems cheaper though...

Car rego and insurance, rates, rent, property, water rates. Big chunks of ones income. Fuel and food are higher.
Fresh air and good rainwater are free.

Would you do more travel miles than the average city oik ? I always figured country people would ?

I'm impressed with the self serve checkouts at our local super. Easy to use and doesn't require intervention by the assistant every 10 secs. No queues either. Not that queuing was ever a problem at our locals.

For everyday things like schools, Coles, pub and beach no everything was within walking distance, for furniture and a bigger chioce of clothes and shoes yes.

I am always amazed at the provision of schools, hospitals etc out in the country so of course that means that there is some local work.
Regional includes small towns with work, those without much work, woop woop and the never never. However, the daily commute is at 100 kph all the way, good for the car as opposed to the grind through the city and doesn't take much longer!

Another one in my cornucopia of hates is that the supermarket is the forum to have to listen to kids with ridiculous names being told off by their parents. Lincoln, Shamilla and Sassari were being yelled at today as I was robbed of $7 for two pizza bases earlier.

The goods where no price is displayed.
All of the shops in this country seem to do a lot of this

Ewan (someone discussed it the other day) for me is about as right-field as I'd go for a boy's name. We considered Chris, Oliver, James for the young boy, the wildcard was Ranulph (admittedly this last one was a bit See You Next Tuesday) and we hoofed it in to touch.
My girls have nicknames which probably sound a bit chavvy so I bet I cop it too. And one of my girls has a name which is fine in French but not quite so Anglo-Saxon so we must sound like See You Next Tuesdays too.
Every time you point the finger at someone - there are always three pointing back at yourself...
