A supermarket was an invention that combined a groceries store with a greengrocer - that was all. Aisles of rubbish is a distraction reserved for the mass market.
Our parents had completely different issues to worry about. Perhaps things like the impact of the drought on their allotments or whether we're ganna be nuked anytime soon

It's been one of the aspects of BE I still find hard to comprehend...and I've been reading the forum for 8 years..

That's something I've noticed more in Blighty than here. Why it doesn't really feature in Australia? Possibly because it hurts the pocket way too much to do so.

It's nice when a supermarket is light and attractive and full of attractive people that is about it. That's what I like about our local store. It's different to many others I could visit.

I actually wouldn't mind that so much if people really knew anything about it and saved it for better times and quality discussion. It's the Asda culture which comes across as petty at times.

People go to markets for this sort of thing. It's nothing other than demographics and habits.

Maybe people just have higher expectations based upon what they are used to. If a second rate supermarket like Asda can offer a wide selection of goods at reasonable/affordable prices, I can understand why people feel somewhat aggrieved that Coles and Woolworths offer significantly less choice, at a significantly higher price.

Exactly what I do, and if you add fizzy water to beer (50:50) with a dash of lime cordial (Bickford's Diet if you want), it tastes just like a beer and lemonade shandy.
