Sunbeds - Wasn't it Obvious?
There is a big hooha here at the moment about the dangers of sunbeds. They must have been around for over twenty years now - but wasn't it obvious even to the least scientificaly-minded of us that condensed radiation inches away from the skin is going to be more harmful than a plutonium sandwich? I think I did have a facial solarium once back in the 80's but thought 'This ain't right'. What is it with suntans anyway? You could be as depressed as a slug in a salt factory and have more diseases than Baldrick - but as long as you have a tan you feel 'healthy'. Most odd.

Re: Sunbeds - Wasn't it Obvious?
same hoo ha here after that young girl died of melanoma due to sunbeds
i thought it pretty obvious too..... pointing out the obvious seems to be the norm these days, "peanut butter - may contain nut products" |
Re: Sunbeds - Wasn't it Obvious?
I don't do sunbeds, I don't even tan when I'm in the sun.
The shipping company thought I was a nutter when I asked if I could pack a stock of my favourite tanning creams:lol: I find it quite disturbing when you see young girls that have been using sunbeds for years, and their faces look like leather and they look far older than they are. |
Re: Sunbeds - Wasn't it Obvious?
I used a sunbed a few months ago......big mistake. I went on for 9 mins, and was fine when i came off. Later that day i felt really ill and my face neck and chest were red raw. I couldnt even blink without it hurting. I have never been in as much pain. I was bright red for 3 days, and when the redness finally went, my skin started to peel off in big sheets.
*****NEVER AGAIN***** |
Re: Sunbeds - Wasn't it Obvious?
When sunbeds first came out, I was an impressionable teenager. (A VERY long time ago) I wanted to go to the local tanning place like all my friends. My Mother was quite concerned and asked her friend who was a dermatolagist, if he thought it was safe. He told her in no uncertain terms that they were dangerous and that he would have them banned if he could.
I have often wondered why they are still around and why people think they are safe???? |
Re: Sunbeds - Wasn't it Obvious?
I used to have a canopy sunbed. I used it once a fotnight. Never changed the tubes though. I got rid of it when we emigrated and i would never have another one. Big mistake looking back.
