Streaming video - my experience

Re: Streaming video - my experience
What are you running Kodi on and what versions are your Kodi and iPlayer?

Re: Streaming video - my experience
Firstly if some things in iPlayer are not working propery (such as Channel Highlights) then make sure the inputstream.adaptive dependency is enabled. Latest version is 1.0.8
If you are getting choppy video (it jumps every 5 secs or so), click on Settings in Kodi and go to Player Settings/Video and set "Adjust display refresh rate" to "Always".
Finally, go into Settings/Stream in iPlayer and change the source bitrate from 5.5Mbps to 3.3Mbps. There are lower settings but I find 3.3 is fine if you are using a SmartDNS. While you are testing this you can uncheck "Play stream automatically at these settings" which allows you to select the source stream manually from iPlayer.
Hope I'm not teaching my grandmother how to suck eggs here

Can I suggest a few things to try out? I will assume you are using the iPlayer WWW addon version 2.5.1.

Re: Streaming video - my experience
Recently updated to Android Marshmallow and Kodi 17.1 and now the audio sync is all to pot.
The video is up to 2 seconds ahead of the audio.
There is a setting you can adjust when watching content but if you go above approx 0.8 seconds it freezes the video.
I don't really know whether it's an Android or Kodi issue but there seems to be several items on t'internet suggesting this can be a major problem with Android.

Android is my least favourite platform for Kodi so I don't use it very much.

My Android Marshmallow/Kodi 17.0 works OK but you're right an audio offset of more than 0.8 sec causes a video freeze. I've never had to adjust by more than 0.25 sec so I wonder whether your source stream is the problem.

That probably confirms it is our source as that has deteriorated over the last 2 weeks. Updating the software more or less coincided with that.

Re: Streaming video - my experience
This morning C4 is working for me in W10/Firefox but not in Kodi/Freeview. On Sunday I tried watching the British GP on C4 but had to give up as it kept freezing. It started out OK so I am assuming they have a bandwidth issues.

Re: Streaming video - my experience
Got to say, HBO might only have 7 episodes of GoT this season, but the money is on the screen. The shots from the most recent episode wouldn't look out of place in Lord of the Rings.
(I won't post an example in case people haven't seen it yet)

Yea, episode 4 certainly had a bit of cash spent on it ...
