Streaming video - my experience

Re: Streaming video - my experience
The Crown on Netflix is worth the viewing, if you like BBC Costume Dramas or know a little British history.
It's kind of pointing up a problem that the Beeb has. They wanted this show, it looks just like a Beeb production, but they weren't able to get anywhere near the money that Netflix could offer. $5m per hour basically matches the Grand Tour money-on-the-screen rate, way higher than the Beeb can manage. Then there's Black Mirror, that got pouched from C4.
If UK TV doesn't watch it, all the good stuff is going to end up with Netflix, Amazon, etc. - they need to up their game and go global quickly.

Netflix must be happy, and the Beeb spitting chips.
You need reach, and thus money, to play going forward.

Watched iBoy, a pretty good superhero-ish type movie set in a grim part of London on Netflix last night. Check it out
Also on Netflix, an okay American-Canadian sci-fi series called Travelers. It's a good story but the plot has more holes than an holey piece of Swiss cheese - as usual
Taboo on BBC iplayer is pretty good

Hi guys,
Have had to update my payment options on Hulu.It doesn't seem to accept Australian credit cards. Any suggestions for a way round it.

Re: Streaming video - my experience
Anyone else having problems streaming BBC iplayer?
I'm having a mixed bag with it at the moment. It's still good on Windows-based devices and Android phones and tablets but on dedicated Android streamers (Fire TV and Nvidia Shield) it is now unwatchable due to buffering (I have a pretty good ADSL2+ link)
It also will not cast using Chromecast and Fire TV stick - although I think this could be due to my use of a DNS redirect
A PITA

Re: Streaming video - my experience
I have iPlayer on an OpenELEC RPI3 and it works really well with a fantastic HD picture. I'm using a smart DNS on the router and casting works fine.
It may be worth having a look at this thread:- http://britishexpats.com/forum/lab-9...issues-891004/

Re: Streaming video - my experience
I haven't tried mainly because everything is on Exodus within a couple of hours. I did read that LibreELEC/Kodi 17 now allows subscription to Netflix and Amazon Prime. I downloaded it yesterday to have a play.

Re: Streaming video - my experience
If a show is new and very popular it is often hard to get a decent stream
If a show is old and obscure it is often hard to get any stream
I installed the schism build on Kodi a few days ago - wow is all I can say. Why would anyone bother with terrestrial TV anymore
I will have a look at LibreELEC

Re: Streaming video - my experience
Looking for a build recommendation for Kodi please.
Have been using Tomb Raider (Ares Wizard) for a while but the links have been very poor over the last few weeks. Not sure of it's the links or the build at fault but ready to try another.
My real interest is live EPL footie, films and tv series (not live).
NRL I can get on normal tv.
