Velvet!
I nearly choked.
The Ozzies seem to be fond of unusual names; bit like the Americans.

Okay I won't say which country but we met someone whose kids were called Zeus, Trade and Falcon. There was another in there with an equally bizarre name but I can't remember it. Falcon was almost called Tank.

Older aussies seem to put ozzo or azza on the end, dazza, spazza, davo etc sounds awful

I guess it all depends on what you want for your children. I want mine to be happy and to do well in life, so we have given them traditional, normal names.
If I wanted to ensure they got laughed at as kids, and taken less than seriously as adults, I guess I might have gone the way of Storm, Rainbow, Petal, Trigg, Jordie, J'aime, Tiger-Lilly etc etc etc.
PS
It always amuses me when Americans use the name or nickname 'Randy'. Don't they realise what it means in English English????

Part of me says 'so what' but I think you owe it to your kids. Suppose they want to apply for a profession or job where a degree of sense is required?

Names do go in and out of fashion, I suppose. I mean noone now is called Doris, Gladys or Ethel. The last women given these names are now buried next to their WW1 fallen or are clutching a rightfully-treasured free bus pass.
